The great man that is Norman Wisdom has passed away this evening, 6.40pm.
Greater details to follow at below link later.

    See: http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Showbiz-News/Comedy-Legend-Sir-Norman-Wisdom-Dies/Article/201010115751905?lpos=Showbiz_News_Carousel_Region_0&lid=ARTICLE_15751905_Comedy_Legend_Sir_Norman_Wisdom_Dies
The veteran actor, famous for his slapstick comedy rolls, died peacefully in his sleep after suffering a series of strokes.
He was being looked after by Abbotswood Nursing Home on the Isle of Man.
The home said the comedy icon suffered "no pain or distress" before he died.

A statement from the home said: "Sir Norman has today passed away at Abbotswood Nursing Home on the Isle of Man.
"Over the past six months Sir Norman has sustained a series of strokes causing a general decline in both his mental and physical health.
"He had maintained a degree of independence up until a few days ago. However over the last few days his condition rapidly declined.
"He was in no pain or distress and peacefully passed away at 18.40.

"We would appreciate that at this sad time the family be given space and privacy to grieve for their much loved father and grandfather.
"Details of funeral arrangements will be forthcoming as soon as everything has been finalised."

RIP Normal and thanks for making me laugh over many, many years.

RIP and I hope your smiling up there...

Eh, if you meant this as a compliment, it isn't.:D
If you meant it as a joke, it's pretty good; if a bit early.

    Thanks, wording corrected.

He did indeed set a good high, clean example of how to make people laugh without having to be vulgar.
He was one of the first many, many years ago that showed it could be done with decency.
He pushed the line at times but never stepped across it. :)

Pity, remember watching his films with my grandad as a kid, he loved him.

    95, fair play to him.

Indeed, as a father now of four myself, I can remember sitting around with my family when I was a kid, in the living room and all laughing at his classic antics.
Those were great family times. Ones that are less and less these days.
He brought many a family together in one room through laughter. What a way to be remembered and what a class act he really was.

On stage maybe, but the Digital Spy thread from 2008 when his death was incorrectly announced would suggest that in real life he tap-danced across it many a time, with less than happy results.

It's not the time for nastiness now, though. Or indeed truth.

However, some of the comments and stories there are a lot funnier then he ever was. As a gesture of goodwill, I cut and paste a quote that is not about Norman - though if he's reading from above I hope he likes it:

    Sample:
One of Britain's most loved entertainers refused to do a charity gig because they sent the wrong Rolls Royce to collect her from her hotel . They have good and bad days

:) I have great memories of watching his films with my grandad too. RTE often showed a whole bunch of them over the Christmas holidays.

My grandad would have been 110 last Friday...

I thought he'd died about 10 years ago. Poor Norman, living out his last days in a nursing home on the Isle of Man.

I remember my father gave me one of his videos (Trouble in Store) to watch when I was young.

I said: "Ugh, black and white? Old? Not for me thanks"

I watched it and never laughed as hard.

The best comedic actor I've ever seen. RIP.

he had wisdom way beyond his years

Lee Evans owes his whole career to Norman Wisdom, even though he will never be 1% as talented or as funny, and the incessant use of vulgarity in his act only serves to show him up as a sad and crass imitation of a true genius.

RIP Mr Wisdom, the likes of you we will never see again....

Cracking comedy actor. The likes of Stiller, Sandler, Rogan et al couldn't get near this guy's talents. I was first introduced to him watching Noel's House Party and then saw a stack of his films. Poor guy had dementia in his latter years.
