It does have to be viewed from the start for full enjoyment as it references itself quite a lot.

Just after catching up with season 4 myself, amazing show. Its just one of those rare gems of a show that is consistantly brilliant each season.Character development has been really strong especially on Henchman 21.

Would have been better if they included Dr Henry Killinger this season though. Not even a mention...

    http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-venture-brothers-renewed-for-two-more-seasons,53476/
Co-creator Jackson Publick has announced via his blog that he’s just signed a contract to produce at least two more seasons of the show about super-scientists, super-villains, and their super-complex interfamily dynamics, with production on the fifth to begin in June. He also dropped the tidbit that the contract includes a long-form, 60 to 90-minute Venture Bros. special, adding, “Don't ask me when we'll make it, what it's going to be about, or whether it'll be on TV or direct-to-DVD, because we don't have a clue yet.” So, everyone go ask him that and he’ll be forced to figure it out sooner. In the meantime, Publick also revealed that he and co-writer Doc Hammer have been quietly prepping an 11-minute special he describes as “a sort of light-hearted, one-off little aperitif” that should debut later this summer.

In case anyone missed this, they recently aired a short mockumentary Venture Bros special about Hank's band in season 4.

Only finally caught up to season 4 now, I'd left this on the backburner for quite a while. It's complete and utter genius

To bump this, a Halloween Special airs on Sunday in the States with the 5th series to start in the new year I think.

As ever, all Bowie references are welcome.

    Halloween special was excellent.
serious lack of brock though :(

    When does season 5 start?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

    next year

so dean going emo was not a halloween costume, colour me interested!!! Also love how they can take a mundane sitcom joke and still make it hilarious (dermot having to go ring the door is much funnier with what the show has already revealed)

Just three weeks until season 5!

Rewatching this at the moment ahead of series 5, just finished season 2 last night.

Brock Samson is definitely my favourite character. I love Patrick Warburton's delivery of every line, it's just spot on.

Big fan of Doctor Orpheus as well.

Really getting excited about season 5 now.

"I used to want to kiss the girl Gremlin with the lipstick"
Oh Dean, you poor sap :D

Welcome back Venture Bros. - it's crazy to think that it's nearly 3 years since season 4!

A great first episode, though; I look forward to the rest. I also forgot how this show almost demands to be watched twice. Once for the hell of it, twice to take in all the sight-gags and references (TARDIS in the background!)

Btw, given this airs on Adult Swim at midnight, technically this thread doesn't belong in Prime Time Cartoon :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

God I laughed so hard through that.

The show is just so perfect at making call backs to prior events, the line from hank at the end about the watch had me in stitches.

I'm glad they are taking Dean somewhere interesting. Last season they absolutely turned Hank into the best character in the show with the hank-co episode and now they are spending time with the other venture brother but keeping what makes hank so likeable going.

only venture bros can do batman, Frankenstein and Apocalypse Now all in one episode and make it work.

    Another brilliant episode.

Hank is now my second favourite batman (after kevin conroy of course :D)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Not quite as awesome as last weeks, but worth the price of admission for Bat-Hank alone :D

Guy can really kick ass when he wants to; I wonder if we'll see Hank and Dean slowly discover themselves a bit more this season. Dean's the more obvious example - even if he's still tinkering in science - but Hank is quite capable in his own way.

Oh and I don't think it's a wild guess to suppose Sgt. Hatred's dream will be fleshed out in coming episodes :)

    so many genius lines.

    "This isn't a parachuuuuuttteeeeee"

"he ain't just gone off the reservation, he's opening his own damn casino!"

Also, Hank's narration had me in stitches.

    Ready the Acid Magnet!

Man that was a good episode. And I love how a possibly-huge plot point is buried within the madness - that
Venture & Monarch knew each other as kids??
Oh and Hank traipsing around in a female powersuit was... disturbing. Especially with some of the camera angles they used lol :D

"Hank's an adult, he's ready to enter Destiny."

"I'm getting real tired of the ex-henchman being a better bodyguard than the ex-villain I hired... ... it's so depressing when you say it out loud."

Every season they have their episode that is very much a nod to a classic series.

This season it has to be the gijoe nod with all the cobra characters reimagined in venturverse.

Highlight was that they went for the shrieking cobra commander voice for the sphinx commander.

lowlight was how short lived it all was. Rather rushed conclusion left me wishing there was more to it.

Also liked the plot reveal hidden among the mess.

Also what happens to 21 now :(

Something worth pointing out & due praise is the animation this season, which has been pretty stellar & really slick in places; I dug out Sphinx' first appearance (itself a lampoon of the GI Joe title sequence) & it's quite rough compared to these latest episodes

    "Ugh.. REGARDLESS"

Laughed at that quite a bit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

that was a fun episode, but easily the weakest so far.

I'm hoping though they are doing what they did last season and the next episode will be the parallel of what happened while they were away with just the boys.

Also *lol* at hank still wearing the combat suit.

Ha, so I think there's only 3 people on Boards who seem to watch this show - Roar, BlitzK and myself :D - but damn Venture Bros. is deserving of a wider audience.

Season 5 has been some of the most entertaining, funny, and action-packed TV I've watched in ages; fantastic stuff altogether.

Also, between the boobs on Hank's strength suit & Sgt. Hatred's unsheathed fun pillows, I think the writers are trying to break our minds, or at least the Male Gaze anyway :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,207 ✭✭✭miralize

I love the segways they make.

    Gen. Gathers

    "I was getting better tips"

    Brock Samson

    "No, not even the tip!"

That image of a frail Hank in a pool of his own p!ss will stay with me for the rest of my life!

There's going to be a Fight Club reference at some point, there has to be.
    His name is Robert Paulson.

"I'm not a bedwetter you know!"
    "Whatever, Puddles"

I can never ever get tired of listening to Patrick Warburton deliver lines.

They played this week's episode a day earlier.

I'll just say the Hank focused episodes are the best, his alternate personalities just crack me up.

Saying that they've tied up a few long running plot points this episode but a few things bugged me
Doesnt morpheus already know that dermot is a venture, he was with the alchemist when they looked into the pass with the key, so his surprise when he found dermot was odd. Also I thought the sudden reversal of Mira's control of the super villians a bit too quick

was it just me or was dermot less of an assh*le that episode and actually had some clever lines.

Yeah, I'm happy his rough edges have been smoothed out because he was by far the worst 'new' character that came into the show. I think it's just a case that he realises his bluster is a bit needless now that he has actual friends & a life; plus he did seem genuine about wanting to help the Doc & make up for the ruse.

I have to say I was a bit peeved to learn Myra isn't the mother to the Venture Bros., after 4 seasons of letting that strand just sit there, to simply junk it like that was a tad glib. I wonder if we'll ever learn the truth; knowing this show, the mother's either someone completely effed up (the Doc is also their mother or something like that), or else were clones to begin with
