    What shocked me was that the Taliban were getting pretty close with their shots. That sniper :eek: Or the RPG that hit right next to them.

    They also tried to shoot down the med evac heli. You also got the feeling throughout it how close the Taliban actualy were.

    It shows how much hurt real bullets cause, and how silly we are when we take our game too seriously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭Puding

    Got to watch a copy , an interesting but often hard watch .

    AN honest look at the true cost of a conflict in terms of people rather than the normal pre occuppation with hardware.

    If your just looking for firefight and insperation for a loadout, then stick to the discovery channel this is so much more

    I caught a few episodes of Combat School yesterday on the History Channel. Showed the last exercise mission, then deployment to Afghanistan and a few of the contacts they've had there. It was interesting to see, I didn't expect the camera crew to embed with them while deployed.

    Watched a documentary film called This Is War last night too. Very, very different to what you'd be familiar with as a war doc. It's entirely shot by four Marines, on their camcorders, as they deploy to Iraq before the invasion, and takes then right up to Baghdad.
    If you want a doc or a film that shows troop tactics or elaborate firefights, this isn't for you. This is far more of a "through the eyes of a soldier" kind of thing. Everything from messing around on a troop carrier, to the very graphic aftermath of an artillery bombardment.
    Not one for the squeamish.

    Talking about the effort being put into eliminating a single target on a ridge line, harassing the column outside Al Kut one night;

    "It's going to cost us twenty grand to kill this guy. How much is a life worth?"
    "Fúck'em. Let him burn."

    29th on National Geographic - World Wide TV Premiere of Restrepo : Outpost Afghanistan.

    Also if you can get hold of a copy of 'Armadillo' Filmed in 2009 it is equally if not more so a real life story of Danish troops in Afghanistan.
