Two questions - any advice?

Okay, so I am two weeks into a media-based course but I'm very unsure as to whether or not I'm going to continue with it. It's more based on film and radio, but I have started veering towards writing as a career (something that my course doesn't cover in great detail). Of course, I'll stick it out 'til Christmas, in the hope that I'll find what I'm looking for, but I'm looking into other options in case I don't. So, my two questions are:

    1. Are there any courses that specifically cover writing? I'd like to go into novel-writing, lifestyle writing, etc. I'd rather not go into serious newspaper journalism. What are the routes into a career as a writer? e.g. English degrees, Journalism degrees, etc. Any recommendations?

    2. How much is re-doing my first year in college gonna set me back? How much are the fees?

Any advice or information on this is greatly appreciated, thanks. :) Again, I'm not going to rush out of this course without thinking. These questions are just a precaution. Thanks!
