    Just reading this part...

"Every new customer joining Sky TV online will also get €25 credited to their account, €50 if you join with Sky+HD before 4 November.

€140.00 cashback when you take out Sky+ HD box with the HD pack as a NEW Sky Customer.

€60.00 cashback when you take out Sky+ box without the HD pack as a NEW Sky Customer".

Does that mean if you join with HD before the closing date, you get the €50 and the €140, or is the €50 included in the €140?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

wouldnt the 50e be credited to your sky account for signing upto skyhd and the 140e comes from fatcheese

    thats my understanding of it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

I tried to get this cashback when signing up 6 months ago, but has to be done online, and you can't do it online if you're in an apartment block with a shared dish

How much does the Sky+ HD box with the HD pack cost over the contract term?

€15 per month, 12 month contract.

    First month free though, so it's 11 x €15 = €165.

You're really not gonna have much HD content to watch if you only get the basic package though.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 31,117 ✭✭✭✭snubbleste

So.. for a new customer they get Sky+ for a year for (€165-€140=) €25

    Not really.
They get Sky+ regardless of what package you go for. You get SkyHD for the €25.
Don't forget you also get €50 credited to your account too, so technically they're paying you €25 to take HD! ;)

So if one goes for the sky+HD option, after the year is up can one revert to just sky+?

Looking at this for parents where HD is of no concern but just trying to save on the money...

    Thanks

    Monthly Channel Subscription : €23.00
    HD Pack : €15.00
First month HD Pack : FREE
    TOTAL MONTHLY COST : €38.00

Although the HD pack is €15, it looks like you still have to have a monthly subscription of at least €23. [/LEFT]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭Eoinite

The way I see it is like this:

The cost of the lowest Sky package = €23 per month x 12 = €276.
    HD Pack = €15 per month x 12 = €180.
    The Sky+HD Box is free but there's a €30 set-up cost.
Total cost of the package for the year is €486.

No if we look at the savings:

€50 credit if you sign up before 4th November.
First month HD Pack is free so that's a saving of €15.
So with the cashback of €140 that's a total saving of €205 which pays for the years HD Pack plus most of the set-up cost.

    €486 - €205 = €281 for the year which is about €23 per month.

add the multi room charge and six euro for package . Who gets just the basic packs? and its more like forty a month.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,470 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Or another way of looking at it, for €281 you get a full satellite install, you get to own the equipment and an on site warranty should anything go belly up, also includes viewing charges for a year.
Once your year is up, cancel contract and you have a full free to air HD setup.
    Good value for €281

And add sports, and add movies, and HD in the multi-room, and....

Obviously you can upgrade the hell out of it (I think I was paying €104 per month when I last had Sky), but as shown above, you can get the HD box installed, including setup fee and a 12 month HD subscription, for around €23 per month. Certainly not to be sniffed at.

How would this work after one cancels the contract? Do you need to buy a different box or a card to make it work?

and how long can you re-order sky as a new customer after cancelling with them?

You just take out your card and all the FTA channels load up on reboot of your system.
There aren't all that many FTA channels around at the mo though.

I am considering going for multi room with pretty much the entertainment pack and it works out about 35 a month for 12 months. Which is not to bad.

Has the dish got a quad LNB does anyone know ? As I might get away with the FTA channels in another room as there should be 1 port free.

Yes. Sky is now always installed with a quad LNB (unless you live in an apt. with a shared dish of course).

mine did work, for the once of cost it was looking for cc details. My bad ...

hoping to see my sky soon, ordered a regular sky + not the HD one....how will I get this 60 euro credit? and also I have order online so do I qualify for 30 euro credit as well from sky?

    Sounds like a great deal

Is there an advantage to getting sky+hd and cancelling after 12months? Can HD box still be used to get HD channels that aren't on Sky or is it plain useless then.

I worked out the cost of sky+ versus sky+hd and it's a difference of €60 with sky+ being the cheapest.

    Thanks

You get a HD box as standard now, so there's no need to sign up for Hd if you're not going to use them.
You'll still get some HD channels on freeview through the box, channels like BBCHD, ITVHD, LuxHD, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 247 ✭✭johnwd

This sounds like a good deal to me. But for those that are talking about cancelling sky after 12 months are up, as far as I am aware:
    1. The recording function that George Hook is so fond of will cease to operate when you end your contract.
    2. You will lose all Irish Channels through the sky box. No biggie if you have a good reception through your aerial (which I don't unfortunately).

For people who want a free setup, consider trying to source a "FREESAT Plus" branded device from the UK or NIRL instead. You'll have roughly the same outlay with the same amount of channels as sky's basic package AND you'll be able to record stuff forever. I'd especially recommend this to people who have an existing satellite dish.

I've got skyplus at the minute on a very basic package and it's fantastic - but I would get rid of it for the above if I could get decent Irish channel reception - maybe when digital TV finally arrives I'll get just that.

AFAIK, Sky sell "free-to-air" cards when you've cancelled. Think they're around €50. They basically slot in where your normal Sky card goes, and they keep the box as "Irish spec".
So you'll get all the free channels, and still have RTE1 on 101, RTE2 on 102, etc.

i dont think you get RTE on the SKY FTV card which are sold in UK

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

It's through Sky Ireland you get them.

They've no need for them in the UK, because all the UK channels come through the boxes free anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,943 ✭✭✭bittihuduga

oh sorry. i was not aware of this.
does it enable the SKY plus option too?

I don't think so. Could be wrong though!:o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,965 ✭✭✭JDxtra

If you have no active sub you will not be able to use Sky+ functionality. The only advantage of a UK "freesat from Sky" card is to add some extra channels like Channel 4 HD, Sky 3 etc. You will not be able to access RTE1/2/TV3/TG4 with a Sky box without an active Irish Sky subscription.

Soarer, thanks for the info. If possible could you post a link to/give some more info on the Ireland "free to air" card that you mentioned - I didn't know about them and can't find them on the Sky Ireland site. Would be v. interested in getting hold of one of these for a second TV (as my aerial reception is rubbish).

    Thanks!

Thinking of getting this deal. Couple of questions though for you people in the know!!

If you sign up for Sky from fatcheese, how is the 140euro credited to your account? Does that go into your bank account?
Has anyone tried this and actually got the 140 back?

I already have a freeview sat dish from Lidl, will I still have to pay a set up fee or can I use the same dish and just replace the Silvercrest box with the Sky box??

    Thanks!!

You will have to pay the setup fee. Somebody will have to come to your house to install it - the dish you have would not be standard for Sky, plus two feeds from the dish will be required.

Im a sky customer since 07 looking to upgrade to hd+ box and also get sky world(all the packages)I have only sports and music of the five now but im paying 58 a month which seems a little steep.

I have heard people haggling and getting better deals?

The €140 is from fatcheese and not sky. They'll pay it into your bank account after several weeks. You'll be able to see how long it takes to get paid on the sky page on fatcheese.. it says 90 days so you should get paid for it within 90 days.

Is the HD worth it for the year?

I am planning on only subscribing to the basic package and cancelling after the year. We have our own aerial (in house a couple of years), and I'm aware of the sky+ not working after I cancel.

The freesat+ box sounds good but maybe after I get the dish from sky and have a bit more cash and put it in another room then. I do have HDD recorder anyways.

So is the HD worth it for the year, difference of €60 overall for the year between that and the cheaper package on the deal.

Has anyone tried to sign up? I did last night (to basic sky package). Got an email confirmation back from sky, then sky ring me today to say the order never went through - and they've never heard of fatcheese.ie

i signed up through fatcheese, got installed today..... if you read the original posts happy you would see how this offer works, just to remind you....... sign up through the fatcheese site,ie clink the sky link, this in turn leaves a cookie with sky, telling them that you have signed up for whatever package through fatcheese, now sky and fatcheese have an agreement that sky will pay fatcheese so much for every customer that signs up through them,Fatcheese in turn will pay you 140euro for signing up through them........ now do you get it?never mind if some phone operator has never heard of fatcheese, thats irrelevant,This site has deals going with tescos among others, they were giving prizes away on sean moncriths show on newstalk on monday last, they are a discount website.
And i have spoken on livechat with these guys......... did you register yet? you must do this first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭Happy4

My problem was that the order never went through. Anyway, I spoke to livechat who said if this happens anyone (and some others have been on to them), to NOT continue the order over the phone with the sky rep who calls (cookie or no cookie being set).

    The order must be redone.
