I find it no coincidence. That since this man has disappeared from our TV screens, my feelings of enjoyment towards WWE television has also disappeared and indeed diminished.. Was it purely rose-tinted (Lenseless) glasses? Or was Percy legimately the one who impacted my enjoyment? So whats/who's the thing you guys miss from Pro Wrestling these days? And does absense really make the heart grow fonder??

Sitting down to watch Raw and genuinely not knowing what would happen by the end of the show, impromptu title matches, decent promos, fueds that actually went somewhere, fighting in the crowds, the sense of it was unfolding live as it happened as opposed to the prescripted segments that stick rigidly to a (bad) script written with juvenile references and humour that nobody over the age of 11 would find funny.

Watching this scene back on the Chris Benoit tribute show, I knew wrestling would never be the same again. They're both gone. And because of what Benoit did, WWE basically deny this ever existed.

Seeing today's roster of young, high work-rate wrestlers (Danielson, Kaval, Bourne, Morrison etc) I can't help wondering how amazing their PPV matches against Benoit (and Eddie) would've been...

The only thing I majorly miss actually and I was thinking this the other day, is The Cabinet. JBL was awesome back then, I always thought Orlando Jordan was competent and did his job well, and then the Bashams were there. I love nothing better than a good stable ruling the roost, same with Evolution as well I miss them. I remember at ECW One Night Stand or whatever it was, JBL was the figure head of the WWE watching over them, was just awesome.

I read he's having heart surgery on Monday. Best of luck to you, J.R. Top man.

I must say I'm missing this man:

    HBK.jpg

He would have surely had at least one more MOTY contender between Mania and now, if he was still an active wrestler.

I miss the random BIG things on raw.

Like stone colds beer truck, angles milk truck, the dx express getting blown up, vinces corvette getting cemented, stone cold getting run over, mick foley getting put in a makeshift prison and then it turning out to be just a cage connected to the dx express and the idea that he was dragged all the way to the ppv.
    Random stuff like that.

I think that's one of the things wwe could actually bring back in these days without causing too much fuss.

Also; the rock interrupting any jobber to cut a promo and he would just tear into the victim. :)

Vince's ECW, at its peak probably the most enjoyable and most sensible booked major wrestling Yank TV show. It also revived so many stalling careers, and of course introduced us to some really talented young guys. :(

I certainly don't miss Jim Ross. Great commentator no doubt, but stayed on a little too long. Made more mistakes than anything else in recent times.

    What do I miss... Hmm...

    69.jpg

A non-poetic, pissed off Kane, who just wanted to wreck things.

    stone-cold-steve-austin.jpg

A person who was extremely charismatic, but played a character who just did what he wanted, and really didn't give a sh*t. His struggles with conforming and having to go through the system and stuff were great. Triple's run ins with Bischoff were the closest to that kinda character since Austin died out I think (well, the only one who did it well, I realise Cena's been bustin' Theodore's balls on SmackDown a while ago, but it wasn't the same).

    10.jpg

A dominant tag team, who, much like Austin, didn't care about anyone and just went about their business, but who could also do pretty well in comedic segments. They had a great sense of humor, but not as good as...

    edge_christian1_66951.jpg

A hilariously funny pair of heelish geeks, who managed to get in and out of the most ludicrous situations, and just get carried away with themselves altogether.

That said, there are still some great things about. I love that Jericho's ego is still intact. I always break out laughing when he slips in his "beat both Austin and The Rock, in one night, for the Undisputed Championship" line. Also thought he was hilarious during his feud with Michaels there not too long ago.

There's no real bad ass character any more though. When Austin's glass broke, or Kane's pyro went off, or the APA's theme kicked in in the past, you always knew there was gonna be trouble, and the person in the ring would always sell it like they just sh*t in their pants. There doesn't seem to be anyone like that anymore.

Cena seems to be the lead comedian, but it's a shame that his comedy routine only caters for the kids. I miss WWE having a solid comedy act. Between Foley and the Rock, Edge and Christian, and even Vince and Austin when Austin went soft ("we need the old Stone Cold, dammit!") there was always something stupid happening to keep you laughing.

My first thought seeing the topic title. Didn't think this time last year if HBK, Y2J and Batista all left the one I'd miss most by a long way would be Big Dave.

I miss the genuine excitement I used have from watch an un spioilered raw on Friday nights, when anything could indeed happen on Raw.

I miss looking forward to the next ROH DVD release. Now, the last ROH show I saw was SCOH 2009.

I miss IWW being a good promotion with decent guests (by good I mean non pg as it seems to be).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,054 ✭✭✭D.Q

    I miss regular crowd pops.

i miss interesting feuds where it seemed as if they actually wanted to fight each other. Remember Rock - Austin. It was always so electric when they were in the ring. At the start of their match when they started throwing punches it was incredible. Realistic. No ****ing chinlocks. Or Austin HHH, when they couldn't physically hit each other, it seemed like they wanted to tear each other apart. And you could really buy into that.

    I miss stables.

I miss JR. I miss credible main eventers.

DECENT CROWDS!! Even Orton today, barely gets the reaction that the new age outlaws got. Nothing compared to rock austin hhh back in the day. The crowd are more interested in getting on tv thatn actually cheering or booing. It really takes away from the experience.

Thought he was fine as the X-Pac to Festus' (Fake) Kane, didn't like the Cryme Tyme stuff, but I really like the Wang/Slam Master J pairing because they both wore white vests and jeans but in the style of their respective gimmicks.

Until Wang started rocking the do-rag. But they felt to me less a random team than Dashing and McIntyre do.

I'll never forget when the ECW invaded the WWE and chaos insued for weeks before they all fought at a PPV

  • Site Banned Posts: 26,456 ✭✭✭✭Nuri Sahin

More or less just echoing comments already mentioned.

I miss the days where I went in watching a Raw, Smackdown or PPV genuinely excited and on the edge of my seat due to not having a clue what was going to happen. I also miss the days where watching wrestling was cool. Loved going into school and talking about it with nearly everyone in my class. Hell, even our maths teacher in 6th class on a Friday(double maths class) let us watch a video, usually it was wrestling tape I brought in :pac:

Would they have fitted in at all.

I miss been gripped watching it thinking what would happen next.
    I miss Austin
