hi my bodybuilding gym is 1hour drive - 1hour training - 1hour drive home that 3hours just to go to gym and back it cost 30euros a week on petrol as i train 3times a week - plus gym fee`s of 400euros

So if you do the maths the petrol cost and gym fee it comes to 1960euros

ONE YEAR Going To Gym = 1960euros + 312 hours of driving :(

Let me know what you think of this and Any advice or help would be great - Thanks :)

Have you got a shed or spare room tat you could turn into ur home gym, if you don't you could prob rent a shed for little or nothing get ur mates in on tat aswell?

For circa €2,000 a year you could buy a shed (or build one with all those driving hours available) and kit it out with some decent equipment.

Depends, what exactly makes this gym worth driving to?

Are you competing/do you plan on competing?

itsallaboutheL - cause its a bodybuilding gym it has everthing mostly free weights racks cages benchs and leverage machines

no im not competing - but im planning to compte in a natural bodybuilding competion in 4years time thats if i can get big and ripped enough ;)

do you still think i should go to gym or train at home ?

400 a year for a decent gym is cheap enough - as for the petrol money. Its not much if it's your hobby.

less than 40 euro a week on your hobby isn't so bad.
As for the time travelling only you can tell if it's worth it.

Yes, if you value your spare time the same as your working pay per hour it can amount to a hell of a lot.

Cycling to work is one of the best things I took up. I cycle in 20mins and would need to allow ~45mins to allow for traffic if I drove. So I get in 40-45mins exercise everyday and end up with more spare time because of it, I would need to set 45mins to drive in and average 25-40mins drive home. Now if I had to set aside time to exercise then you could say I am freeing up even more spare time as I kill 2 birds with one stone. And money saved on petrol, car, gym etc. It wakens you up in the morning, many presume you will be knackered, I arrive nice and woken, when driving or on the bus I would arrived stressed from sitting in traffic jams. I have basic weights at home but am not that serious about it, if I was I would still not be in a gym though, would just buy decent stuff.

I expect some people spend an hour driving to and from a gym to walk on a treadmill for an hour.

Are you going there to train with a group/coach/training partner?

and i wasn't going to ask, but i genuinely think it makes a difference, what are your stats?

absolutely.. but its in no way relevant to the OP's question and judging by the response below I reckon walking the dogs wont get him where he wants

op, add up your membership fee, commuting fee and the time it takes and unless you have training partners in your current gym it might make sense to invest in some equipment
