as the title says i'm gettign bored with my present Gym TF Sandyford.

it's to expensive, standards of staff and equipment recently has dropped.
when i do get up there two or three times a week i'm just not arsed have the time.

when i first joined a few years ago i was motivated and lost about 2 -3 stone. but its slowly creeping back on.

so i'm thiking of leaving the gym. heres the thing.

i want to lose abotu 2 stone, mainly fat in th belly and chest. i'm about 95kg and 5ft 11. will running alone shift this.
what kind of distance shoudl i be doing, would boot camp be better?

i was thinking of doing 2 6km runs a week and 1 10km. its around Killiney so it'll be up and down hills.

    any tips, suggestions, advice.....

    Thanks in advance...

Boot camp would be better if you feel more motivated training as part of a group and want to pay someone to tell you what exercises to do. Alternatively, just do your own circuit and spend your money on protein :-) I wouldn't focus too much on the distance run, concentrate on the effort used. I'd say you would have better fat loss results if you use High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). personally, I do sprint sessions on a pitch some days using the Tabata Protocol. You can google it but basically it's just 8 sets of 20 seconds ball-busting effort with 10 secononds rest. It has to be done to those strict timings 20-10-20-10-20-10....etc., 4 minutes in total. You'll probably feel more wrecked doing that than you would running 6km.

For excellent, challenging and effective training at home, invest in a Kettlebell. I started with a 16kg one, that is the recommended weight if you have some weight training experience. A 12kg might be ok too but once you get stronger you'd want more weight so you don't want to buy 1 thats too light then spend more money on a heavier one in a few weeks.

I'm 6" and I was 101kgs. Im now 80kgs. What I did to lose weight was running about 5 nights a week doing 30 mins every night. When I started running I could barely do 5-6km in the 30mins but I kept challenging myself to go further each time. Now I can do over 8km easy in 30 mins.

No real secrets to dieting. I just ate my 3 meals a day with fruit for snacks in between and I didnt touch fizzy drinks or sweets full stop.

Once you can see you are making progress with the running you are more motivated to keep yourself going to lose weight and gain fitness

As I think saw on another thread, Diet 80% exercise 20% . Fat around the belly is meant to be a sign of insulin resistance. Its really worth reading up on the role carbs and sugar on weight gain

Exercise alone may only keep you in check. A few years ago I used to cycle to work , city to Sandyford every day and run about 10km at the weekend. I was in good shape but I was still technically overweight.

cheers all, i'll look up the yog, HIIT and crossfit.

boot camp may suit me, as i do enjoy/need soem motivation from time to time.

My diet has slipped in the recent while, so i'll get that back on track. i've an 13 month old daughter, so its really since the last few weeks of the misses being pregnant and since shes has been born that i've let things go.

but now that she's over one i want to get things back on track.

Have you looked at P90X at all? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P90X

Theres a few of the lad on here who have done it or are doing and they reviews seem to be very good. It does involve a lot of self motivation though, so may not be for every one. Just thought I'd throw another option to you.

    Good Luck,
