Is there any for of storage facilities available to me? And if so, how much do they cost?

yeah, I'm curious, if anyone could also advise on the signup location in the arts block?

    thanks

FFS, use the search function. Tomorrow morning, 6.30 AM, security desk in the Arts block. €20 +€20 deposit.

6:30 am. My first class is at 11am. Would it be worth it for me to wake up 5 hours earlier to line up for a decent locker? I'm doing Science, so I'm trying to aim for ones in or near Hamilton Building.

Hmm. The buses start at 7, and I'm out at Trinity Hall. This could be interesting...

There will probably be locker forms available throughout most of the day.... it's only the 'good' ones that go quickly, eg the double-sized lockers in the arts block.

I got my locker form at about midday two years ago. And my friend got one at a similar time last year.

Is there any diff between the ones in Hamilton and Loyd? I'll be in both pretty equally.

Hamilton is 24 hour so you should go for that if you can.

What hours are the Arts block ones?

Do the Hamilton ones go quickly?

Probably closed from 10pm and on Sundays or something like that.

Not sure but when I got my locker only ones in the Lloyd and Panoz were left. The Panoz is just the very end of the Hamilton building and is also 24hr.

Hamilton ones do tend to go quickly from memory, but the Panoz, Pharmacy or East End lockers (all different names for the same lockers) tend to last a bit longer and are actually in the Hamilton too (just downstairs) so share the advantage of being 24 hour access.

So I might be alright. When does the queue die down normally?

Think it's the Panoz mine was in last year, didn't bother getting it til the Wednesday I think it was.

When we get our locker application forms from the security desk ,do we sign them there and then on the spot, and pay? or do we bring them somewhere else?

I will be looking for one in the hamilton too.

You bring them back within a few days with the money, and you'll get your key then.

    Are you serious ?
How can you be guaranteed one in a good location if thats the case, why has everyone to queue up early then, do they only have a certain number of forms?

A locker number is written on every form

What's the advantage of a Hamilton locker over a Panoz locker if they're both in the same place...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 ColRyan

How big are the lockers in the Hamilton and Panoz? ie. can they fit a gym bag. I'd prefer one in the Panoz studying Pharmacy but I'll go for the Hamilton if they're bigger.

From what I read, I won't bother trying to get a good one. The chances of me using the 24 hour feature is slim. Even if I do, it's not that hard to carry stuff around with me in those rare occasions. Also, I'll be carrying most of my books with me anyway in case I get free time unexpectedly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

I'll be cycling, so will want a large arts block locker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭AndrewJD

I'm not gonna queue up at 7. I just need a small locker somewhere near the Hamilton. Tomorrows a long enough day without the 5:30am start.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,881 ✭✭✭Kurtosis

Hamilton and Panoz lockers are all in the same building and I'm 95% sure that they are all the same size. They should fit a sports bag no problem.

Hamilton lockers are situated in the main concourse of the Hamilton building. Panoz lockers are located downstairs near the East End lecture theatres (LTEEs) and computer rooms.

ColRyan, unless things have changed, a lot of your lectures should be in the LTEEs (if not this year, definitely in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year), so a Panoz locker will be just outside those lecture theatres.

Realistically what time should I head in at to get a locker in the Hamilton ? And what exactly is the procedure with getting a locker if you pay there and then do they just hand you the keys or do you still have to wait a few days ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭blubloblu

What time does the office open? I don't think it would be good to miss my first ever lecture at 9.

Whats the story with paying for your locker for this year if you kept it from last year? Will there be a little sign up somewhere saying what to do?

    Getting lockers -

I queued up at 6.45am last year. There were about 20 people a head of me in the queue..

    The process didn't start until about 7.50am - 8am (can't remember).

You are asked where you would like a locker. They give you a form to fill out, you pay and they give you the key.

You can pay straight away or go back later in the day when its not mental and pay for it then/hand in form.

Queued at 7, god it was cold. Three English girls landed in at 7:30 and tried to skip us, we were not pleased...

Queued at 7 and got mine in the Hamilton, it's smaller than I remember them being though! Was freezing cold out there though, and I forgot to bring a scarf, not gonna bode well for my health...

When I went to him at the end of last year and asked to keep it he said to bring the money in during Freshers' Week. But I went to his office on Friday and was told he wouldn't be back until Monday, so I'm just gonna head down in an hour or two and try pay then.

Queued at 6:50am, had a form by 8:03am.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,226 ✭✭✭blubloblu

They opened the doors at 7:50am according to their clock. A friend got one in the Hamilton at 11. Morning miss-spent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,536 ✭✭✭Mark200

They were still handing out forms when I was in the Arts Block at around 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭ajjmk

I wandered over at 2.30pm & had no bother getting a locker in the Hamilton..I feel like I cheated or something :P:cool:

Hardly any queue this morning at quarter to 9 - got a locker in the Lloyd which, despite the apologies of the locker admin staff, isn't a trek for me and suits perfectly as I get the Dart to and from college.

And may I add, €40 WTF!?

I don't mind the €20 deposit, but €20 rental charge seems incredibly steep.

True, but the end of the year is quite far off and I was hoping to use that €20 for a Freshers' Ball ticket :(
And yes, €20 for the use of a space barely large enough to fit one bag is definitely steep.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 255 ✭✭JC06

Would there be any lockers left in the Lloyd does anyone think?

You pay for convenience, If you don't want to pay the 20 euro, don't get a locker. My lockers in school wouldn't even fit half my books, never mind about a bag. and they were 25 euro. It's not that much money for god sake...

There seems to be a lot of free lockers down there still, not much demand for them.

You had to pay for your school locker!? Talk about scrounging for pennies ...
And with the amount of sh1te that needs paying for in the first few weeks, 40 quid for a locker is another unwelcome hole in my budget.

It's perfectly easy to get by without a locker, so the 40 euro is completely optional... There isn't THAT much stuff really that you're not expecting, I mean if youi're going out every night then your budget is gonna suffer but that's your own fault.

Lugging around a laptop, notes, jumpers, gym gear etc. in a bag during lunch and between lectures is far from ideal, and I'd consider a locker essential. I don't want to get in a huge argument about this, but there's a lot of costs besides going out like books, public transport, food... I've paid the €40 quid and I'm happy having the locker if a little out of pocket - sin é :pac:

    *cough* cloakroom *cough*
A laptop isn't essential, it's more of a distraction than anything if you ask me. Jumpers are for wearing aswell :)
Gym gear can go in the cloakroom or left in the gym for the day if you're that kind of person. I cycle, so have to lug all that stuff into college in the mornings this morning. those costs aren't unique to the start of the year though, I'd comfortably survive on 35 quid a week for food if I had to, and I eat a lot :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,761 ✭✭✭Lawliet

I heard they're getting rid of the cloakrooms after christmas, I don't know if that's just in the Hamilton or not though.
