I have a multimedia HD with a lot of films but I still wanted my DVD's too. And I'm sure if you left your HD out in the rain you'd have a problem!

I only moved them out there for storage while I was doing some stuff in the house.

Intelligent input there... perhaps people who have bought them over the years. DVD's have been out since 95 you know. So if you have a film on DVD, why bother waiting for it to stream if you want to watch it?

How many times are you re-watching these movies? Its actually much easier to just go to a web site and stream a movie than going out to the shed to dust it off.. Cast off the shackles of your archaic physical dvd's and join us in the 21st century!

Given the fact that they were stored in the shed, I would estimate the upper 90s.

I think you'll find your external drive is worse at standing up to wind and rain than your typical DVD.

If you highlight the darkened piece with your mouse pointer, it'll show you the text. The actual term means it hides the potential spoil (on a plot line or something!) You can look if you choose to. :)

    eg.
Home & Away is not as good as it used to be.

Seriously... I know how to stream films, but wtf has that got to do with having a DVD collection which was mostly built up well before broadband was not widely available.

Replace your DVD collection, really you should be able to if you've legally purchased a license to have a copy of the film what difference does it make to the content provider if you use the legal copy or the illegal copy?

Granted it doesn't fill the collectors need to see a wall full of purchases but if it's just about watching films then digital copies are the way to go.

It only takes 6 mins to download a movie. And not much more for a Blueray rip.

...or so I've been told by those evil copyright infringer's.

It would seem that actually getting a DVD is far more hassle. I couldn't be arsed to go to a shop, browse manually for the DVD I want, queue up. Even buying online has a relatively long delivery time.
    No thanks....I'll stick with digital.

    A DVD collection, how quaint.

DVDs are quite durable, it takes a bit more than wind and rain to make them unwatchable. So its just the paper covers that are ruined, and even then they are in plastic so they couldn't possibly be that badly damaged unless there was a localised monsoon over the hole in the roof of your shed and as a result the shed flooded.

I think you are being dramatic, in any case they are only films and are all easily replaceable. Now had you said you had left old photo albums out in the shed I'd feel a lot more sorry for you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,494 ✭✭✭citizen_p

    LOL people still buy DVDs

dvds are strong in my experience and can usually take a bit of a beaten, light scratching etc...

2,000 wow, at about 10 euro new ones 20 30? a dvd its €20,000 worth of dvds, where exactly is this shed with no roof.

why were they in your shed anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 34 Brightest_Nite

You mean to tell us that you individually inserted 2000 dvds into a player and checked to see if they are working???

A bit of water won't affect them, scratches will.
