January Transfer Talk

I thought we could do with this thread to contain all the transfer rumours leading up to the January transfer window.

Spurs agree deal for South Africa defender: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/South-Africa-international-defender-Bongani-Khumalo-has-agreed-to-join-Tottenham-in-January-in-a-1-5m-deal-article586869.html
Tottenham have agreed a £1.5million deal to sign South African World Cup star Bongani Khumalo.
The SuperSport United captain will move to White Hart Lane in January after impressing boss Harry Redknapp during a trial last month.
Swaziland-born Khumalo, 23, flew to London yesterday [Thursday] to discuss personal terms. His advisor Glyn Binkin has already held talks with Spurs officials.
The 6ft centre-back played in all South Africa's games at the World Cup finals, and scored in their 2-1 win over France.
His fee, 17 million Rand, is a record in his home country.
A source close to the deal said: "Tottenham have requested that Khumalo be allowed to train with them again when the SuperSport fixture calendar allows him to travel to England.
"SuperSport's next game is on October 16, and that is why they allowed him to take the trip to England."

Fúck! Real are after Bale - apparently!
    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/b62hL
We can do better than £20 million though.

And I know its nothing new but this looks promising:
    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/b62hN

Also, Jake Livermore and Adam Smith have been loaned out to Ipswich and Bournemouth.

What we really need is a top striker. Why not go for Torres or Aguerro even at €30,€40 million.

lot of rumours going around saying that we got vdv so cheap cos we will give real first refusal on bale. thats bad news if its true

    Were you drinking early yesterday?

We won't pay their level of wages, and €30m spent would see us make a loss, which Levy will not countenance. Regardless, neither would come to us until we are an established CL side, and we have a long way to go before that happens...we are not City or Chelsea who can/could at least promise to break into the top tier on a regular basis while paying sh1t loads of wages.

Be realistic pal, not a hope of us getting such a player at the moment. Our best chance of us getting one, is if we buy him young and he turns out to be a star, which is unlikely, as the top clubs tend to have the pick of any up and coming promising young lads.

We could offer Bale for Benzema? Benzema dosen't get played much now anyways so I'm sure he's dying to leave, only problem is would he come to us?

Why in lords name would we want to offer bale for anyone. He's the best left sided prospect in the British game since another welsh man, mind boggling to even consider it.

    Amen to that.

Can we buy a decent left and right full to go with this centre half please, and if not both then a left full first.

A Benzema loan deal in January if we are still in the CL would be great but cannot see it happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 823 ✭✭✭kakee

Lads, I didn't mean signing Torres or Aguerro per se. What I meant was if we are going to be playing 5 in midfield we need a striker that can play up front on his own. Of course all the top strikers come with a big price tag and most demand big wages and that is the reality.
The major problem is that all those top strikers have played in European competitons already so wouldn't be eligable even if they joined in Janurary.
I think the type of striker we need is like Darren Bent or Kenwyne Jones but I don't think either club would do business on those. Maybe Abonglahor from Villa or Kevin Doyle from Wolves.

If I had my way he wouldn't be going anywhere either but he's gonna go eventually so why not? He's not from London so he has no loyalty to us. Might as well get a top class striker for him...

And players from London do have a loyalty to us  my back side they do.

Remember he has only performed at this level for approx 9 months...

You know what I mean! Bale is eventually going to want to go to a bigger club, probably along with Modric, just like Carrick (and Keane:p!) did. The longer we keep him the more we risk losing him on a free, and yeh saw with Ozil that even the summer before he can go for a fraction of his value.

If we keep such an attitude of selling our best players we will never become a CL regular like we all want to us to be. To say Bale Modric and the likes will leave soon is so negative. I might be wrong, maybe Utd will offer 30 for bale next summer and Levy will snap at it again, but one good thing about Harry (i hope) is that he will pull out all the stops to keep our best players.

And another thing, I can guarantee you we will never get stung again like we did on Judas as regards losing a top player for nout. If Bale/Modric for example have a contract with 18 months left and they dont want to discuss a new one, they will be shipped out I would imagine if it means us making 30m instead of him walking for free.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

united were interested in modric during the summer. all they needed was for modric to show an interest and they were in with an offier. he wasnt interested and either was bale, thats why they both signed new contracts

Looks like we're still in with a shout for Fabiano. We desperately need him!

And here's another striker we're showing interest in, only 19 though.

Also, Juve join the race for Pienaar. Even if I wasn't a Spurs fan I think I'd rather go to Spurs.

So many reports linking us with Muntari now but you have to ask do we need him we have so many midfielders as is?

No way would we swap Bale for him by the way that would be a crazy deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

No point in Muntari, Midfield is solid. We need CBs and a striker.

But do we really, or have we just had a rotten time with injuries to all of our CB's. If they were all fit, we'd probably be saying we have too many.

Quite right , i would like to see a good striker come to the lane and a solid left back, Assou-ekotto reminds my of justin edinburgh.

I think we need a solid RB if anything, BAE is fine, our priority should definitely be a (top class) striker though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,395 ✭✭✭Hatch99

It's a tough one, we have hutton, corluka and Kaboul who can play right back, so i cant see us signing another unless we get rid of 1 or 2 of the mentioned. The one I like is Walker who is on loan at QPR , I think he could make a player.

As for LB, yes BAE tends to have a mare every 4/5 games, but Harry only ever has good things to say about him, so Im not sure he is looking to replace him just yet. Bale is another option in that position.

I'd love to see us sign Suarez from Ajax, I really like him.

Robbie should probably go in Jan. For his sake and also for Irelands sake, we need him playing regularly. Harry doesn't want him and thats clear. Dont be suprised if he goes to Celtic again.

Id have to disagree, i think BAE is just way too inconsistent, and when hes bad, hes very very bad!. Prone to too many errors that usually cost us dear.

All is not lost with hutton just yet, i think hes a much better option than corluka who's pace has just got worse since we bought him.

Agreed on the striker though, i dont think keane , defoe, pav or crouch are good enough.

Good enough for what. They have all scored goals for us. Keane is different as he is blatantly not wanted/liked any more so he should move on. But the other 3 have all done well for us. Look at Defoe/Crouch, there goals got us CL Football remember so to discard them as not good enough is silly. And Pav has scored some important goals too.

Dont get me wrong, I'd still like a 20m pound man such as Benzema or Suarez :D

Well if we are serious about staying in the top 4 we absolutely need a 20 million pound man. Look at our strikers compared to the other top clubs (United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool). They dont even compare. JD's limit is 20 goals a season, we need some one like Torres, Tevez, Rooney, Van Persie or Drogba thats capable of getting 30+ goals a season. If we are indeed serious about staying in the top 4.

Thats exactly it, yea keane and the rest have done a good job but do you really think are good enough to keep us in the top 4 again? Based on what we have seen so far i would say no, they are all way to inconsistent, whens the last time we had a striker that scored 20 + league goals?

As THFC says above, our strikers dont compare to arsenal, utd or chelsea, different class all together, i just feel we need to spend heavy and try and get a truely world class striker.

As it is we do not have a world class striker.
What got us top 4 last year does not automatically mean it will get us top four next year.

P.s. were 7 league games in, and our top scorer has 3 goals if im not mistaken, (Van der Vart)?

Your taking me up wrong. I dont disagree with you. All Im saying is that the strikers we currently have are still vital to where we want to go, and to label them is silly. Liverpool have Torres (appears injury prone now), Utd have rooney who is excellent, Chelsea have Drogba and Arsenal have well... RVP i suppose but he is injured quite a bit too, so they are not a millions miles ahead of us.

I agree with you, Id love a top striker in the big money bracket, ie Suarez who I like, but you have to learn to walk with the big boys before you can run with them...

Heard we're chasing Milan defender Daniele Bonera.

    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/b6hyJ

Just checked him on wikipedia, can play RB or CB which is good I suppose. Also was capped by Italy (when they were good) a few times. He's only played 71 club games since 2006 and seems a bit injury prone though. Anyone ever seen him play?
