Just curious as to what clubs and socs people have joined, and whether they are planning on keeping them up through the year?

I joined swimming and water polo and kayaking on the clubs side. Then hist, engineering, sci fi, film makers and comedy in the way of socs.

And short of possibly debating I plan to continue everything throughout the year- fingers crossed

Let's see, so far I've joined Rock climbing, Fencing, Food and drink, Surfing, Ski, Paintball and Poker. I will definitely keep up rock climbing and paintball, hopefully a few others too.

Phil, Hist, LawSoc, Amnesty, Cumann Galeach, Knitting, Europa, Food and Drink, Labour, Players, Trinity Arts Festival, Visual Arts, VDP, Athletics.. I think that's it.
At least gonna keep up with the phil and/or the hist for debating and labour.

DUAMS, Netsoc, SciFi, Ogra Fianna Fail, Politics, History, Hist, Judo & Comedy think that's it! Hope to stick with most of them.

History Soc, because they had nice sweets, and the Women's rowing club, because apparently boys make good cox's.

Nothing! But when I get up to TCD I will join a few. Netsoc, in the hope that they have a few more programming and similar tutorials throughout the year. ELSA (European Law Students' Association), for the craic like. The Hist, because they have good speakers. I only wish you didn't have to endure the Hist to hear the speakers. Maybe gamesoc/cardsoc/whatever to play a bit of poker, but considering my need to study and not spend money this year, probably not.

I can't remember exactly what I joined off by heart but I've been lucking for the music and netsoc stands all week and can't find them. Poker soc too :(

Not the Berlusconi Appreciation society? ;)

Oh sorry you did. The ELSA

They were but then DUSSC took that spot... they have been on the main square every day though, so it's simply a case of walking around until you find them. They've been with Pirate Party, who have pirate flags, which should make it easier.

I joined Singers, Computer Science, Mathsoc, Physoc, Pirate Party, Netsoc, Gender Equality, Amnesty, Gamers, Fencing, and Environment. I'll actively do things with Mathsoc, Physoc, Singers, CS and Pirate Party most likely. Busy busy! Singers clashes with fencing unfortunately so I'm going to have to find a different sport...

Joined a few today after registration.

I joined Trinity fm, Sf Soc, The Phil and Boxing. Not sure how involved I'll be in them though. Hopefully my lecture times won't clash with Boxing too much.

Kayaking, Climbing, Engsoc, Juggling, Sci-Fi, Hist, Netsoc, Diving (don't know if I have the money though:( )
The rowing seems too intense for me though, not sure if I could handle it. Juggling Kayaking and Climbing all clash, Tues/Thurs from 7-10. So its safe to say I made a right mess of joining societies. I never found the sailing club, meant to sign up with them so I could get a bit of practice in before next summer.

Having 27 hours of work a week means I won't have too much free time anyway...

Players, Comedy, the Phil, French, Cumann Gaelach, Music, Jazz, Alternative Music, Psych Soc, History, Trinity FM and Sci Fi.

So far I've only really gotten involved in Players, but honestly it's the best craic I've had in a good while :D

    Archaeology and Classics.

I have neither the time nor the inclination for a plethora of "societies" even if I find their raison d'etre vaguely interesting. That doesn't include those societies without a discernible raison d'etre at all.

    Scifi and the pirate party.
I wanted to join Werner chemical but I hate crowds so I avoided the stands until today, but they didn't appear to be there.

I imagine it involves you being in a boat repeatedly rowing with an oar somewhat like this
    row5.gif
except perhaps with others in the boat too. :P

ah wise guy aye , haha , no I meant what is the atmosphere like?

On Poker Soc, they're officially known as Card soc (They're required to cover Bridge etc. too). They were on the inside square near the Exam Hall beside French Soc today.
I think they do poker nights in the Atrium on Mondays, but don't hold me to that, please!

    Rowing is taken quite seriously.

Everyone I've talked to about rowing has told me that it's grand in JF when you're learning and just getting into it, but that it gets more and more intense later on, with them sending you on week long courses and the like. I'm going to go down to their first session next week I might stick with it if the people are decent, otherwise I'll stick with kayaking.

I was being scouted for the womens rowing... Seemingly I have the "perfect build" to be a brilliant rower!

I think that's the line they used in everyone. I got told the same thing by the guys, though I was a good foot shorter than them and maybe a third of the build :D

I joined Hist, An Cumann Gaelach, French, Jazz, Dancesoc, International Students Society, Politics, Cancer Society and Food and Drinks.

Since I was really bad at the whole 'joining societies' thing in First year and getting involved in them, I joined anything that tempted me AND if they offered me a considerable amount of free stuff:D. As for getting involved yesterday I spoke to a few hist people, and I liked the idea of debating/discussion mornings with coffee, so I might go to that. Also An Cumann Gaelach's pub crawl was great and the people were really encouraging, with regard to my Irish being out of practice:o. Dancesoc, because I'm sick of not being able to dance properly at weddings and formal stuff:(. Also maybe a bit of French and International Students soc, because it's related to my language studies. Roll on second year!

Disgraceful, shoulda joined the mens boat club, far superior. As I said during the week, its like comparing driving a ferrari and driving a punto

My friend brought me up to the stand and they seemed real happy to get a boy cox, so I figured I may as well. They also did warn of poaching by the men's team...

Mathsoc, Psychsoc, Zoosoc, TFM, ComSoc, TradSoc. Only joined ComSoc last year.

There'll also be a day where the stands are set up in the Atrium for Postgrads to sign up so you could always head over to that. I think it's usually in week 2.

DUCSS, DUAMS and Netsoc, have been involved with them before.

Also joined Mathsoc and Physoc, hope they are good, and might try getting involved with DUISS too.
