    apologies if this is a stupid question but how do you set up caller id?

    If your line rental is with Eircom then contact them and tell them you want caller ID.

    Yup, if you're with eircom ring 1901 and ask them to set it up.
    I think the automated voice recognition system will actually set it up automatically for you without speaking to an operator, if you have your account number handy.

    If you're with another provider, ring them and ask them to activate it.
