No time this year so just YFG and Journalism!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

Journalism and Motorsport. A few more interested me but I'll only join them if I see they're actually doing something for the year rather than using my €3 for a piss up :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭Sparkles:)

If you're interested in more than a piss up try kayaking

four hours of pool sessions a week plus a river trip at least once a week, not to mention competitions and our captain has a jaccuzzi in her house ;)

but if theres a thursday in the week we'll see you in Geoffs too!!!

    I joined

    Journalism (against my will!)
    Fianna Fail
    Kayaking

may head to swimming and mountaineering over the year too =D

If you head into the Clubs and Societies office (pretty much next to the game rooms/pool hall) on the Cork Rd Campus, they should have an up-to-date list of the current clubs and socieities and contact details for who to ask about joining.

Never heard of this one. Had a radio show in LIT for a few years, was a bit of craic, any idea if they're setting up a station in the college?

Google a bull rodeo and imagine a shark instead of a bull! ;)
I imagine you have heard from Biz Soc by now, this was posted forever ago innit.

i joined up for the golf club, and went to the first meeting.

basically was told only people who have a single figure handicap will be able to play on the team. everyone else can only play on the informal meet up's.

they dont offer any training / tips / advice for new players, and there was not a good attitude from the organisers of the golf club.

Im going to ask for a refund, as a club / organisation that only want experienced players is complete and totally useless to most people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 430 ✭✭Sparkles:)

That's a very bad attitude, Complain!

College clubs and soc's are about having a laugh, (just realised i missed swimming!) clubs that concentrate on nothing but finals or varsities is just unfair!

Hey, I missed the meeting last week, I arrived at 6 and it seemed to be over, but I got the text about it being in f04 at 5.15. I didn't get a text this week about it though so where was it on this week or was it even on? It wasn't on in f04 at 5.15 anyway as I checked.

Ah shark rodeo i like it! Nope just what iv seen on their facebook page, havent got anything directlly from them,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 drumpusher

Well lads, just a heads up on the Dj Soc. Plans are underway for the lessons and you will be notified by text when they will begin.

Can be a logistical nightmare bringing in all the equipment so we are just fine tuning all the planning, and hope to be underway very soon!

Also we're currently sorting out what day suits everyone from info gathered at the meeting and what the groups will be.

Meetings won't be weekly. Again you will be notified by text when and where the next one will be.

Wednesday night sessions are currently on hold for the moment as well.

So did you get a refund? I was there at the meeting and to be honest the lads that run it are fairly useless. Are you the guy that asked the question about the less gifted:) golfers. TBH you couldnt put intermediate golfers out for the team. It would be soul destroying because its matchplay and you have to play off scratch. I went around with a friend of mine on one of the games last year and he was off 6 and got hammered by a guy off 1

The game on Wednesday will be a bit of fun. Waterford Castle is usually 30e even for students and were getting it for a tenner like. Fantastic course

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

no i didnt ask that question but i was going to, but someone else got there first :p

i completly agree about not putting intermediate golfers out on the team, but to snub us off so ignorantly was very rude.

I havn't had a chance to get a refund yet, been crazy busy with assignments and exams but i will do soon!

Poker, Golf, Pool & Snooker for myself.

Haven't heard anything about the pool&snooker since the first meeting, and they aren't replying to my texts

Be careful your not texting the Clubs & Socs number, which is an English one.

You will find a lot of societies tend to die away after the first meeting for some reason!

Are you the guy that asked the question about the less gifted:) golfers. TBH you couldnt put intermediate golfers out for the team.

That was me who asked that question. I was under the impression that as a player who hasn't played in 10-ish years but recently got back into it and is really loving the game I might find a place to improve my golf and have a laugh in the process.

The society seems to be geared towards competition play. The non competitive outings also happen at a horrible time mid week, I don't know about you guys but I can't afford to miss nearly a full day of lectures.

In fairness to the guy speaking at the meeting it is very nerve racking standing up to speak infront of a room full of people. I guess I'm just disappointed that there wasn't more focus on intermediate golfers. Another 3 euro wasted.

Also in regards to the DJ soc I spoke to one of the leaders and they will be having the lessons as planned. There's a lot of work involved in setting up these lessons what with all the equipment required. Also some of the people running the lessons snowed under with college work so I'd expect to hear a date for the lessons after we come back from mid term.

Ye I forgot that I made that post and haven't replied to any of yeres!! They are awful times for the golf I agree and TBH I can't miss many more because i'm in 3rd year now, have to buck up. I'm gonna send them an email and maybe try and get them to set up a get together in the driving range for a few nights. I know the pro in the range well and if there was a group of us there he would do us a good deal for a lesson.

Hes very good for all mid to high handicappers(well he got me down quickly) and simplifies the game well
