    Hi everyone

Have a tree out the back laden with cooking apples and am trying to avoid the apple tart / crumble route - especially since I live alone and will only end up scoffing most of what I make myself.

So does anyone have some suggestions that are easy to make in small portions (or bigger ones that can be stored / frozen)?

    Thanks
    Rebecca

You could try mini apple pies, like those mr kipling ones, but I would still end up scoffing the lot!

I used to make small portion crumble in a small saucepan. I used regular apples so used no sugar, I would get the flour & sugar & butter and mix it for the crumble and cook it off on a low heat in a nonstick pan with no added oil stirring all the time. When browned I would pour it off into a bowl or plate. Then I would add butter to the sauce pan and fry up my finely chopped apples, then dump them in a bowl and put the crumble on top.

    Cooks in no time too.

im dead jealous ...would love a apple tree laden with fruit in garden :(

what about stewing it - let it go cold and freeze it in small portions ...

Stewed apple and Custard is yummy on a cold day in winter

I have a pot of Classic Apple Chutney stewing away at the moment.
    Its a Rachel Allen recipe.

It smells lovely, haven't tasted it yet.
It makes loads, so if it turns out well I'm going to give it to friends and family as gifts.

There are some other nice ideas for cooking apples on that page too.
