With the county scene finished a lot of championships are coming to an end. So post your reports, predictions here (and see if we can make a few bob)
In Roscommon football it's St Brigid's v Elphin Final this Sunday 4.30 pm Brigids will be red hot favourites and should win.
Hurling see perennial runners-up Pearses take on either Four Roads or Athleague on Oct 10th.

In Westmeath Mullingar Shamrocks take on Garrycastle in what should be a tight Senior Football Final.

The Wexford SFC final is going to be between Castletown and Kilanerin. I am hoping that my club Castletown will win their first title since 1981. I believe that the final is set for the 3rd October.

The Wexford SHC semi final are on this weekend, with St. Martins playing Buffers Alley and Ferns-St. Aidans playing Oulart The Ballagh. The final will be on the 10th October.

    .

Interesting aside to the above game is that 6 (I think out of the 7) Gregg brothers will tog out for Elphin on Sunday, with 4 of them likely starters.

In Galway there's a semi final replay on Saturday between Mountbellew/Moylough and Killererin in the football. The winners will play champions Corofin in the final on Oct.17th

The hurling championship is only at the quarter final stage, those games are on this coming weekend. Portumna are hot favourites to win it again.

    Kilkenny Quarter Finals:

    Ballyhale Shamrocks v Dunnamaggin
    St. Martin's v O' Loughlin Gaels
    James Stephens v Carrickshock
    Clara v Erin's Own

The game between James Stephens and Carrickshock should be good. As has been pointed out elsewhere its time for Carrickshock to either put up or shut up. They have really done nothing since losing an epic semi final to Ballyhale in 2006. They have the players to put it up to the village but the suspicion is that they will fall short once again. Larkin and Tyrell have been excellent for JS of late. Still looks like Ballyhales to lose to me despite the loss of Shefflin and the their recent league final defeat to JS.

Could be a 5 in a row in Kilkenny this year after all.

On a side note I think if Birr win in offaly this year Brian Wheelehan will have set a record for county medals (14 I think) It wouyld be some record, crazy to think he is still lining out at senior for the club...

Fair play to Tullamore on that one no one gave them a chance once again..semi finals for the Offaly SHC are Tullamore v Kilcormac/Killoughey and Coolderry v St. Rynaghs. Really is a hard one to call, Coolderry will be slight favourites I would imagine, followed by K/K.

Is the Tullamore 2 in a row on?

Carrickshock have a few players on the Kilkenny team/panel haven't they - Michael Rice, Richie Power and John Tennyson. I assume then that their other players wouldn't be at the same level as James Stephens or Ballyhale Shamrocks?

Yeah, IK just think JS have a better 'team' plus the 2 lads on the3 county panel...

Ballyhale are anothedr step up again, esp from 8-15

Michael Fennelly cha fitzpatrick, TJ reid, Eoin Reid, Colin Fennelly etc... I would like to see someone give them a rattle this year but they are not all ireland champions for nothing...

    Limerick Senior Hurling Championship

October 3rd Kilmallock V Southern Emmets

Hard to see Killmallock throwing this away to be honest but Emmets have a strong team aswell comprising of players from the junior and intermediate clubs of South Limerick. However Effin are still in the Junior championship and with Hospital Herbertstown and Glenroe still in the Intermediate it could be thier undoing. It's surely Kilmallock's time to deliver with the likes of Gavin O'Mahoney and Shaughs and Bryan O'Sullivan all very good hurlers. But Emmets with Mike O'Brien and Richie McCarthy will be doing their best to capture the Daly cup and put in a performance for Donal O'Grady and co.

Paddy Power has the betting as follows Kilmallock 1/2, Draw 10/1, Emmets 7/4

Good game between vincents and ballyboden, ended in a draw. Vincents good in first half but ballyboden worked incredibly hard in second, and probably deserved the win. Vincents just didn't put the same workrate in and ballyboden won all the dirty ball. Ref was very poor. Should be an interesting replay, if vincents wake up I'd say they'll win it.

Good stuff, Jerome. Couple more good clips during your post-match interview with Stephen Hiney, who was my MOTM. Fielded some great ball in midfield and put in a savage evening's work.

Great championship match. Vinnies came out all guns blazing, led by 5-0 before Boden got going at all and could have had the game over by the break with 2 missed goal chances. First one Mossy hit the post, second one their No7 flashed his shot wide 1v1 with Boden keeper.

2nd half Boden much better, on top in midfield and should have kicked on to win once they got 3pts up with 10 to go. Awesome point from the sub Paddy O'Connell to tie it up with the last play of the game.

Fancy Boden in the replay Tuesday week. They surely couldn't start as badly again and with Conal Keaney definitely back and injured duo Kenny Naughton & Danny Davey likely to be fit, they'll have more scoring power than tonight.

Two shocks today in the Limerick Senior Football Championship as Monaleen defeated reigning champions Drom Broadford by 0-12 to 0-11. In the other semi final, Adare scored 1-5 without reply in the last ten minutes to turn the screw on 2007 champions Ballylanders.

So its Monaleen v Adare in the final, a repeat of the 2002 decider which city boys Monaleen won, denying the west men a hurling/football championship double.

    In football:

    Semi Final stage.

    Knockmore vs Castlebar

Knockmore (championship fav's) against (second fav's) Castlebar. Both teams are very strong with a plethora of county players on show. For Knockmore, Kevin O Neill (17 years on from winning an all-star), Trevor Howley and Aidan Kilcoyne are set to star, while for Castlebar it's Barry Moran, Neil Douglas and Pat Kelly who should be to the fore. Castlebar had the easier route to this stage and Knockmore may prove just too strong and hungry in what will be a very tight game.

    Ballintubber vs Shrule/Glencorrib

Another interesting prospect. Ballintubber have been progressing nicely over the last 3-4 years and have an excellent mixture of youth and experience whilst Shrule/Glencorrib are a team who have, for the most part, underachieved over the last number of years. They will see this as the year where they may finally be able to deliver on the big stage. Both teams have excellent forwards - Alan Dillon and Cillian O Connor (Ballintubber) on one side, The Mortimors and Mark Ronaldson (S/G) on the other. I predict Shrule/GC to triumph here with their physicality in the middle being the difference between the sides. The also beat reigning champions Charlestown in the Q/F.

    In the Hurling showpiece -

    Ballyhaunis vs Tooreen

The most local of local derbies. Ballyhaunis will be hot favourites for this 1 and will probably triumph in a keenly fought encounter. There is no love lost between these two sides however, and Tooreen are ever eager to return to the pinacle of Mayo hurling, having played second fiddle to their near neighbours for the past number of years.

I hear there's war about that game Orizio; Buttevant were leading by a point three minutes into injury time but the ref played seven minutes extra in total which allowed Castlemartyr to come back.
Nobody knows where he got all that injury time from. I have cousins in Buttevant and they are not happy at all!

There was 3-4 stoppages in the second half, one of which took up about three minutes alone. The referee actually did what most refs don't - he took note and put together the amount of stoppage time during the match and added it on at the end. Rare, but good to see.

In the other semi,we have Sixmilebridge, with high scoring Niall Gilligan clocking up incredible scores every time he takes the field, against Crusheen, clueless as to what way this will go...... Mabe Gilligans scores might be enough to see the bridge over the line, but i wouldnt bet on it.:)

Crusheen are in the county final but dont know who their opponents will be as the two previous winners played out a draw and will have to do it all over again........
