I have recently been accepted for a part time course in DIT, 1 night a week for the next few months. As i am unemployed, the 1200€ fee has a sting, does anyone know of any allowances or fee assistance i can get? The department of social welfare seems unaware and studentfinances.ie appears only to be for full time.

    any ideas?

I also looked in to this and no joy. I was told to go full time and get BtEA. You could ask Fas if they would pay some of it as they do subsidize fees for some course for unemployed. They did this for me when I did my ECDL however I suspect your case would be different
