i've been playing with my friends for quite a while and i usually end up making money in our cash games...i also cashed in a freeroll online and won 125 dollars,im sick of playing low limit against either real tight or loose players who don't understand poker properly. The moves i make just go over there heads abd its too boring waiting for premium hands. I want to take about 100 to fitzwilliam and see how i do....i've never been and wondering what the quality of the players are like?

Dont bother and save your money.

Manage your bankroll. - To buy into a cash game you should have AT LEAST 25X the MAX buy-in for the game you buy into.

I know it's tempting but I wouldn't advise what you're thinking of doing.

I'll give you one piece of advice for fitz - bring an ipod.
As for quality of players - somewhat average but you should probably play in the jackpot/voodoo to start off. Full of young broke students who are scared sh!tless to lose their 50euro buyin. Again - bring your ipod.

You're not going to get very far with 100 I'm afraid, going to need a lot more than that even to play just 1/2 live and chances are the standard there is going to be a lot higher than playing with just your friends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,313 ✭✭✭AstonMartin

Easiest way to explain this to you is to put it into football terms. you are the best player on your schoolboy team and because you seem so relatively good you think that you might be good enough to join a league of ireland team. the fact is league of ireland may not be a great league but you have only ever tested yourself on a school team and will not make the first team for a while. in poker terms, at a minimum play 20,000 hands of nl25 to see if you would stand a chance of beating the fitz cash game. anybody can think they are good at something if their competition is beyond bad.

well seeing as you dont know the quality of the people i play with you cant really say its beyond bad, when it is actually quite good. We are still in school so we dont have money to play in big cash games...but the players i play with are good. Also i dont see how i could ''think im good'' when the competition is beyond bad,i outlasted 17,000 in the last mtt i played in

How do you know you and your friends are good? took me a while when i was starting out to realise i needed a huge amount of work and experience to even become average.

I was thinking of doing the same as you , But i think i would feel intimadated going in to a casino by myself. I think i am just too quiet and a shy type of person to go by myself. I could just see myself bottling it at the door and heading str8 back home . Perhaps if i knew when you were gonna give it a shot i could meet up with you . I think i would feel more comfortable if i knew there was someone else like me there and we could compare notes after . What do ya think ??

il play you heads up online over 5000 hands. Il give you 3:1 your 100 to my 300.
when you are spanked into oblivion then maybe you will put silly ideas such as going to the fitz out of your head.

the vast majority of players there are terrible but are rolled to take the swings so in the long (actually short term) you will go bust

Don't pay too much heed to the Serious Sids and Negative Ninnies with their talk of bankrolls and swings etc.

Go in and have a shot at a €1/€2 cash table with maybe €150 and see how you get on. If you know the handrankings, have a basic idea of the concept of position and the rudiments of betsizing then you'll be fine.
€150 isn't a lot, its just a couple of nights drinking/clubbing money if you crash and burn.

Depending on if you enjoy it and wish to continue, you can then get yourself properly rolled for it.

Rake is too much, especially with all this cash leagues nonsense.
If you aren't going to qualify and play those leagues, don't bother imo.

You may as well. You'll get a 1\2 nl or pl game. Sure see how you get on. The quality varies wildly and very much depends on the time you go at. Weekends bring the usual standard of drunk players but you'll get some people who can play too.

I didn't mean to be bankrolled, more from the pov that going to play live without a full buyin+rebuy at least, is just a waste of time.

Everybody here seems to be assuming you are talking cash games (which tbh you probably are).

If you like tournaments you will get a very good game there - great mix of loose, tight, aggressive, calling station, etc.

I find the cash games crazy **** to be honest. Straddle bets and nonsense loose action. Even with pot limit it can be pretty hair-raising and for a minimum buy-in of E50 I find it too steep. It sounds like you get 25X the big blind - which should be fine. However there's a straddle almost every hand so in reality its more like 10X the big blind.

    Jesus

I'd be interested in their E25 game but that's far too cheap a game for people who go to play (who can regularly buy-in for something like E200!)

Why is it that on a poker thread most people's posts turn into instant spam?

OP even idiot players pick things up and although fitz and other casinos may have lots of live degen spewtards, they have way more money than you and are not afraid to stick it in the pot (hmm sounds like a dream). Anyway if ya wanna gamble it up, go for it but since you are playing so under rolled, even if you're Phil Ivey good, you're still gambling!
    Good luck!

thats a hard place to make a few quid if you want a easy place go to D1 its full of fish that would nt even know what position is they see A3o UTG and they raise every time i went in there with 80 and left 1100 euro but then i lose most of it back to the blaxckjack but even johny chan used to lose his winnings on 21 so im all good

The last time i visited 'the fitz' the players there included two transvestites, two recently stoned heroin junkies, four chinese degens and the rest were cabbies:D:D:D

Quote "The last time i visited 'the fitz' the players there included two transvestites, two recently stoned heroin junkies, four chinese degens and the rest were cabbiesbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif"

unlike the rest of the posters Peterkelly has actually been into the Fitz. The transvestites are great to play with they play a great passive call station game and usually go broke, don't know the stoners, but the chinese are scary no problem leading out huge bets with a inside straight draw.

OP as previous posters have said there is no point in going in with 100 it could last you 5 minutes. You would be better off playing their tourneys get used to the place and learn.

Remember you know your friends and how they play, you don't know the players in the fitz so you won't have the same reads. Not all Chinese are degens, some are actually decent players, sometimes the transvestites are calling cause they have the nuts (no pune intended here), but you won't know when.

I would recommend the Jackpot, or somewhere else, if it's your first time into a Casino. Even if the standard isn't better in the Fitz, for a first timer in a Casino might be a little intimidating and this could put you off your game a little.

I went to a Fitz myself as a first timer and found it put me off my stride a little made some bad decisions, went to the Jackpot a while later and won 500 euro on my first visit :pac:

The Fitz is a more professional/high standard Casino (could be accused of being a bit sterile though) and once you get used to live casino poker would be worth checking out, I found the some of the dealers in the Jackpot a little cantankerous.

Here is 2 typical scenarios you will deal with when playing live in the 1/2 nl game.

Hand 1 you have 99 in the hole UTG. Your stack is 130 euro after 30 minutes and you raise 3x. The chinese guy beside you puts you all in. He has been playing pretty loose so you call. He shows Kh9h but fails to improve. You now have 250 euro. You feel happy

Hand 2 you have 1010 in the hole UTG. Your stack is 230 euro after 60 minutes and you raise 3x. The chinese guy beside you puts you all in. He has been playing pretty loose but even after his last loss against you he changed another 500 euro into chips. You call. He shows Kh9h and hits a King on the turn. You now have 0 euro. You feel sad.

At 1/2nl forget about 25 times big blind. I want to have 200 times big blind at a minimum.

Also I never want to have to make a decision about whether or not to call where the pot odds are good but if I lose I cant pay my rent.

You called for your whole stack preflop with an unsuited pocket pair to preserve €6, regardless of his table image that's a poor decision.

Against one player you are probably 60/40 to win. Decision is do you like them odds.

He's a donk but he's a Chinese donk which means having any suited card is a potjam, so you are generally gonna be 60/40 in this situation. 60/40 is not crushing someone.

Yes you took a punt didn't pay off. If you won he would eventually got lucky against you judging by his buying power so you always go broke, trick is to not get greedy and pick your spots more carefully imo.

60-40 is a big edge long term.

Hes also going to show up with lower pocket pairs here as well.
