    Lol!!

I'm heading up tommorow for my first proper ploughing since 2007; I missed last year and got to it at 5.30pm on Thursday in 2008 when everything was either sold or packed up!

Hoping to do a deal on a good quality powerwasher and a Quad bike, and looking at sheds also. There is about 20 grand going to be spent between here and Christmas on a small shed and a new quad bike and other bits and pieces. Farmers are about the only ones spending money at the moment. No fecking loans needed either.

Next year i suggest that boards.ie have a small tent at the ploughing where we can all meet up and put faces to the usernames. Sure if I thought they'd have one this year I'd go and bring the Mrs and all - although I'd be leaving her with the Order of Malta in the Carpark.

Boards.ie are always having these drinks meet up's in dublin and other cities that farmers just can't go to. Next year, i for one, would be in favour of a ploughing meet up!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,786 ✭✭✭✭whelan1

    good idea

i am wondering, will it have more stands and new inventions this year, i always come away with some wonderful stuff, i do think it will be a welly day tomorrow wedensday
just listning to the news now, there are traffic delays of two hours at moment, one would think that since it is the second yr in a row, they would have fine tuned it by now down to no delay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,329 ✭✭✭jfh

well what was it like? first year that i'm missing it for a while

Well, back from the ploughing. Great day, lovely weather, lots to see, wore the legs down up the knees with all the walking.
Traffic was no problem, not for me anyway. Left East Clare at 6.30, parked up at 9.30. It does pay to go early. Back home in about 2 1/2 hours.

For those coming from the Limerick side, brown route, watch the queue leaving the M7 at Portlaoise for the sliproad. People pulling up suddenly in the main lane, when they over ran the start of the queue. Saw a few near misses.
Also when you get to that first roundabout, take the right, then across over the M7 and exit for the Heath road. It will take you right into Stradbally. Not a car on this road.:D

left Claremorris 8:30ish -parked up 11:30 only delay was Mountmellick..

made mistake of going through Clara, should have stayed on motorway & turned off junction 5, I did that route home - was lot quicker.

    Great show - good buzz..

Walter watson was handy for sitting on as there wasn't enough seats in catering area..!!!

    Bring your own food..

Supermacs were effin expensive.. €6 for crap chips & 2 sausages.. mental.. but thats what the kids want so what to do.. sausages too spicy.. kids couldn't eat them :(

Drove up from Kerry left at Nine and arrived at about 12.45, took the Blue Route from the M8 J4 at Johnstown and to quote Father Jessop, "We went around by Southern Yemen" such a long roundabout drawn out detour took well over an Hour from the M8 to carpark ridiculous. Tomorrow will be a mudbath I reckon while Thursday should be ok, have provisionally agreed sales of of €5k so I am doing my bit for the economy.

Food is an awful rip-off, however sample the Hereford burgers outside the Hereford tent for €5, drools!

We left Ennis at 6 and got there at 9. The legs are sore now and I know I did not see everything would go again tommorow but its to far to drive.
Did anyone else see your man with the 3 dogs pulling the timber plough :D

I did - priceless. I'm sure he'll make it to some paper or another.

I reckon I didn't see half the stands. 8 hours of solid walking - the legs couldnt take another day.

left thurles at half ten, was parked and had the soup and sangwiches eaten by twelve.

we shortened the blue route a bit, took a right after durrow for balinakill, then followed the signs to timahoe, gained us nothing I'd say on the way up, but was useful to know the route on the way back.

had a great day, hope it wont be 10 years before I make it again.

Good day there. Lots of cool stuff. Must buy that lotto ticket tonight. There were guys there at 6.30 yesterday morning and big crowd there at 8.30. The food is a bit on the dear side alright. Went to my beloved dept to sort out my DA payment problems. How does it take nearly 5 months to query an online mistake? Nice girl couldnt answer me but i decided to kick the bin outside the door rather than her. If more of them were as helpful.... Went looking at volac automatic feeders for calves. 10k for 120 calves and can feed milk and replacer in 4 different pens. Has anyone got santas mobile?:o It was sticky in spots yesterday so going to be messy today and tomorrow. Best of luck travelling folks. DRIVE SAFELY

    Same place next year.

I've a trade stand. It has been really positive for the past two days. Everyone we have talked to is in good spirits and is willing to spend money.

Long days though, we are on site from before 8am and leave after 6.30pm.

Agri folk are a mad bunch, some craic.

I went yesterday. People were going in wearing shirts jumpers and coats + wellingtons  I went in wearing a T shirt jeans and shoes:) I was inside half an hour when I saw them walking around with their jumpers and coats on their arms

Them ones selling the two packets of cornflakes on the way out were fairly annoying whether they have the worst pitch in Ireland or not also met a few chancer's selling tickets to fund themselves.
