Replace faulty Huawei modem from 3 or recommended unlocked with pigtail

    Hi brainy ones,

I have a Huawei E1750 branded from 3 and this last week I've noticed webpages didn't load fully, etc...

I took out a packet sniffer and found suddenly I have massive numbers of TCP retransmits, ACK+RST, out of sequence packets and other strangeness which happens in various bursts.

Now I really doubt 3's network is that broken so I suspect it could be my modem being faulty.

Do you think I should brave the support lines and ask for them to send me a replacement modem? They've lied to me about various things in the past so I don't feel confident in explaining this to them again.

Or do you guys think I should finally make a break and get an unlocked modem from somewhere? If so I really really would love a pigtail connector on it to allow me to plug into a better antenna (in an effort to get around cell breathing and maintain reasonable speed).

Oh yeah a USB modem that doesn't crash quite so often would be amazing too.

    So then,
Have any of you ever experienced that packet mangling issue?

    or

    Should I get a replacement from 3?

    or

Do you have a modem suggestion? :-)

    Thanks so much!

Have you checked for malware, download the free version of malware bytes anti malware and run it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/ , only takes 10 minutes, sounds like a problem with your browser.

Are you using anything like, media bar, imesh, bearshare, limewire, websearch, alot, etc?

What program did you use for sniffing packets? Wasn't wire shark?

There is nothing wrong with my computers, the issue affects my windows and mac equally.

Yes, I used wireshark to capture the packets.

Try for malware on the windows machines anyway, your sim could be faulty drop into a store and get a replacement sim tomorrow, maybe get them to check the modem.

Anyone know how replacing the SIM could help? Even if it was somehow involved in decrypting data on the fly, many of the problems seem to be the network or the device randomly setting wrong flags on packets in my tcp/ip streams.

I experienced the same issue when plugged into my 3GN.

Any recommendations on a decent USB modem to use instead?

maybe there are quality issues with the devices they are buying? are there ever "seconds" of these things that may be sold to companies at a reduced rate?? i also had problems with two different three modems before at lease that is what they claimed:)
