i need to loose some weight. im on the dole so cant really afford gym or any kind of expencive stuff like weights etc. i have taken up walking and doing a bit of cycling. i had a kinda active job where i was on my feet all day and using my leg mussels so most of my weight is on my upper body.

has anyone any tips or advice to what i could do to help work out my upper body?

Turn your walking into running (google the couch to 5k plan to get you started) and continue cycling.
most of my weight is on my upper body.
You can't reduce fat from one specific part of your body. If you burn calories through exercise your overall bodyfat will drop and you will see proportional results.

As you can't buy equipment or pay for the gym, use the tool god gave you: your own body :-) Check some of these on youtube

If you read this post, go and run for 30 minutes then come home and do as many push-ups, sit-ups, squats etc. as you can then you'll have started. Try not to get sucked into the thing that some people do on here which is post and ask for advice, ask a million questions, do nothing then come back and ask for more advice a few months later.

just focus yourself and get stuck into it. It's simple and just takes some guts and determination. Good luck.

i have porridge with skimed milk and honey for brekfast then i might have some fruit around 11 for lunch it might be a chicken brest with veg in a whole grain wrap or some cottage cheese with tomatoes and peppers on ryivta.then around 3 or so i will have some nuts or 2 rye bread with peanut butter.for dinner it will be a stirfry with chicken or fish with veg.i have stoped eating after 6.30,i have cut out white bread, white rice and plain pasta its all changed to brown now,no soft drinks,no beer,no takeaways.watch the amount of dairy you have.fill up on salad or veg for lunch and dinner.start to use extra virgan olive oil for cooking.as you are a good bit taller than me means you will need more calories, find out what calories you need to maintan your weight at the moment and then you can drop 2 or 300 calories from that amount, example if you need 2500 kcals to stay the weight you are now go down to 2100 or so and then as you drop the weight dont forget to keep droping the calories down.what i found out is there is no quick fix in droping weight you will have to be willing to change your food lifestyle for it to work in the long therm.as i said i am only at this about 6 weeks or so.if i made any mistakes in the info here somebody wiil set you on the right path.:)

Cut out the takeaways and use the money saved for a gym membership....2 birds with 1 stone :-)

Seriously though, there's a load of tasty grub you can eat that you'll enjoy as much as a takeaway and won't be loaded with fat. I'd say Milk and Cheese are ok in moderation, change to low-fat varieties at least. White bread - axe it altogether and get wholewheat. That Brennans poppyseed stuff is nice. Axe the butter as well. Butter is about 80% fat....lethal if you are trying to lose weight. A few slices of whitebread with real butter would cancel out an hour of running, just to put things in perspective.

If you really want to lose the weight you will have to sacrifice all of that stuff but sure if it was easy, everyone would be going around ripped to the bone with 6 packs

True :-) Well, a takeaway is usually a tenner.....1 or 2 of those a week is 40-80 a month. You could get a gym membership for 40 a month, maybe even less.
    any sujestions?
Chicken, steak....high protein and low fat stuff with a salad. Just google "healthy recipes" and you'll find 1000's of dishes. I usually stick to the basics. Steak is my favourite food anyway :-)

Well you see, this is what you have to get around. Butter - tastes good, 80% fat = 'man boobs' etc. Fake Butter - doesn't taste as good, low fat = no man boobs (or, not causing the man boobs anyway)

I know butter tastes good and most spreads taste sh!t....but I don't eat 'real' butter all the time because I don't want to eat something that is loaded with fat and is bad for me. It's just a matter of deciding what you want more: delicious buttery goodness or to lose weight. IMO if you are in a position where you need to lose weight, butter is a complete no-go.
