HooRay anyone care to guess when we can expect it over here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭osnola ibax

Happy that I can wait until a decent development before upgrading, ie 2ghz processor and gingerbread. This is too incremental a change for me.

Is it just me or does it look bloody huge?

I have this vision of networks (here) holding it back until after Xmas so as to shift the original Desire.

they don't have Desires in stock to shift.

it just looks like a remade version of the HD2 with a few extra features.

don't see nothing there worth jumping the hedge for.

    Also the Desire Z (QWERTY)

Will it have better battery life? I just got the HTC Desire but to say the battery is shocking is an understatement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 833 ✭✭✭batman2000

Well the Desire Z has a 1300mAh SLCD 3.7'' screen and the current Desire has a 1400mAh OLED 3.5'' screen. The important item I believe with the Desire is the auto syncing (constant Widget updates) or staying connected on the WiFi ...apparently.
The Desdire HD is also SLCD 4.3'' but 1230mAh battery,

the comment above is wrong. as the HTC website state it has 1230mah capacity battery (same as the HTC HD2)

No doubt meteor will get all these in. I'm so glad they went the Android route and stayed away from ios

Ya be wishful thinking Meteor getting this as a pay as you go option.
I am just not to keen on paying a bill i like idea of just paying the 20 a month getting all my free txts to any network.

Mmm I don’t really understand this model, without a new cpu in it there's nothing that would tempt me about it, actually not having physical buttons is a disadvantage for me personally.

Meteor confirming to me on Facebook that the Desire HD will release on their network October/November.

Christmas present picked (unless a better phone is announced between now and then)!

    FYI: according to
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_%28processor%29
    and
    http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/forum/index.php?/topic/61-what-is-adreno-205-and-how-does-it-compare-to-other-gpus/

The Desire HD has a MSM8255 chipset, including "Hardware-accelerated SVG and Adobe Flash", "significant improvements in shader performance over Adreno 200 GPU"

"Based on the early benchmark results, Adreno 205 [Desire HD] is expected to be about four times faster than Adreno 200 [Desire]. Samsung's Hummingbird with PowerVR SGX540 [Galaxy S] is expected to beat Adreno 205 by a small margin, however. Still, given that nothing touches the performance of SGX540 today (that's right, iPhone 4 is not even close!), this is quite an improvement."

TBH i don't think it is, even after the release of the new phones i'm still looking for the desire, i just want to know if this improved sense will be added to the existing desire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,232 ✭✭✭DGRulz

All I'm saying is this is my new phone, I've been stuck w/ an LG Viewty since christmas '08. At first I had my eye on a Nexus One - couldnt get my hands on one. Then I discovered the Desire - Just missed out on getting one . But w/ God as my witness I'm getting this phone. Also my mp3 player died the other day so that can be replaced w/ this too :D

well for people who have been looking forward to buying a new phone and dont own a good smartphone its probably a great thing.

People that do already own a desire or a hd2 here really wouldn't notice a massive difference if they changed.

And it does have a better CPU. Its slightly more efficient :) by 5 points to be exact :)

Looking forward to this...Have a htc hero at the moment and managed to cancel my contract with Meteor recently in the whole debacle so am now on PAYG...

Any ideas when Meteor will be stocking and prices etc.

Wont be for another month I'd say, pricing should be the same as the Desire.

At a guess I'd say they would be in around the same pricing as the Desire and Galaxy are currently.

id expect it to be more expensive than the 2...its either the old desire and sgs is gonna drop prices or the evo or desire hd will be more expensive.

I'm taking a guess that the Desire HD will just replace the Desire in the current range. At least thats kind of my hope.

Tbh if they're not able to get the more Desires in the HD and Z will just replace it.

It's a bit odd that both the new phones have a smaller capacity battery then the Desire though, that's a bit off-putting.

Thats what i was thinking aswell. But seeing as they wont have the 'Power Hungry' AMOLED it might not make a difference.

I was looking forward to the Desire Z... but I was hoping for a 4" screen, and something better than an 800mhz processor. Storage space is still low at 1.5GB.

I don't think either of these will get an official Gingerbread update as well, as then they'll have to lose Sense.

well the screen eats the most battery life. if the SLCD is as efficient as they say this should drop it down and still hopefully give you a days use for an average user.

though don't find this a problem :) it aint an iPhone you can pop a 2nd battery in :)

i know some people said in XDA they carry around around 5 spare batteries :)

i only got one spare though :) comes pure handy when you cant get to a charger or have no time for charging

    Damn.

    I watched this:

And now I want one :D

Think I might have to upgrade my Desire after all :(

(might as well click through and watch it in HD!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,277 ✭✭✭evolutionqy7

nothing new in that really. just a few sense tweaks. ofcourse once the rom comes out it will be ported to other older HTC devices even if htc wont give an official upgrade.

    Speaking of the new sense

Well a system dump is already out. Its just a matter of time till it gets coded into ROM's and fixed up and polished

He actually had it for a while
Sorry guys it could have been faster, I´ve access to this device since 2 weeks, but never thought about a dump before...

I'm hoping the desire Z appears on o2 shortly. I've asked on their forums, but the o2 rep who replied didn't have any information on whether they'd be carrying it :/

Yeah Its 4.3 inches. Too big. Its same size as Touch HD and HD2.

Don't know why they've made it this big - shooting the thing in the foot before it gets off the starting line. Instantly put me off one - I'll stick with my Desire non-HD

I'm sure they are terribly disappointed you won't be getting one. Maybe the thousands of others in their target demographic will be of some consolation to them...

Oh aren't you the witty one trying to pick arguments with someone on a forum over nothing.

I suspect those people in the demographic will opt for an iphone as its smaller but still has the HD etc. I owned a HTC TouchHd previous to the Desire. Its just that bit to big to be as convenient as an iphone or a Desire. Same will be true of Desire HD. Whilst some HTc/android fanboys might be it for the sake of it, for many business users its just a half inch too big. The market will tell us the answer in due time. But certainly as a typical Desire owner I would not be buying a bigger more expensive phone merely for the HD. Most of the target market will already have recently gotten a perfectaly good Desire or an iphone4 already. Why would they bother to upgrade for something less convenient and not really that much better ?

As the evo 4G has shown there's definitely a demand for phones of this size. Hence the release of the HD.
