Just Started Running - It Burns, it Burns!!!

    Hi There,

I started the Couch to 5k program a week ago and i'm on week two now. I haven't found the program too bad so far apart from one thing. The day after the run I find that my lungs are burning, and im constantly coughing, this lasts for the day or longer.. my lower neck is in bits too (probably not related).

I don't understand it - I dont smoke and im not over weight and I play other sports where I have no weird after effects.
Anyone else ever experience this? It's very painful.

    Cheers
    W

I have to drop dairies if I'm planning a run. Two days in advance minimum. They make me cough like a bugger.

Make sure not to stoop when you are running, could be the cause of your neck pain. It might be a habit of doing it so you might not be aware of your posture when running, tricky sometimes.

Thanks lads, Not sure about the dairy thing, I don't really east much dairy but ill give it a go - hopefully it helps :)

It's better that what one of my buddies suggested when I complained about my lungs... "Just run it off"... :P

I'll try not to stoop also, thats probably what i'm doing

I know what you mean cos Ive gotten it the odd time, but all I can say is you just ahve to work through it, and breathe properly when you are running.

As for your neck, you could be tensing it as you run so check your form next time you are out. I did C25K earlier this year and my form got much better in the 5th week when i had to do the longer runs.
