Pain in leg joints when using treadmill-alternative?

After walking for around 8-10 minutes, I find that my legs and especially joints become painful and so can only manage 10-20 minutes on the treadmill, often trying to push through the pain until finally one leg becomes almost numb.

As this is killing my cardio regime, I was planning on interspersing exercises in the following way:

    Bike 1 - 20 Minutes
    Treadmill F/W - 10 minutes
    Bike 1 - 20 minutes
    Treadmill F/W - 10 minutes

Then continue onto my weights workout as normal. I assume this won't have any lesser effect than doing it 20 minute straight on the treadmill.
