    Hi,

this is possibly a stupid question, but here goes:

If a person who plays a sport such as Gaelic Football or Hurling etc where acceleration, short sprint speed, turning ability etc are very important, spends hours each day on a bike (exercise or road bike) in an effort to build up a level of fitness before the start of a season or returning from injury or even to burn body fat during the season, will this adversly affect (running) sprint speed or reduce their capacity to increase their sprint speed?

Short answer, no idea... Long answer, the muscles one uses when running are different to those used in cycling (run a 10k and then go for a cycling and you'll understand) That said cycling is a great way to loose weight and gain aerobic fitness. For a more detailed answer why not post up in the A.R.T. forum, the tri people will know more about the cycle/running mix. Hope this helps
