Looking for a bit of advice on food allergy testing
I regularly suffer from stomach problems and I have managed to pinpoint certain foods myself and cut these out, however I would like to get professional advice and find out what other foods etc disagree with me!

So who do I go to? a doctor or nutritionist or dietician?
and what sort of food allergy testing do people recommend?

    any help appreciated

    :)

For the serious allergies, your doctor is your best bet. There are tests for gluten and nut allergy etc. But I'm guessing you are talking about intolerances rather than actual allergies, which tend to be pretty obvious.

The best thing to do with those is an elimination diet, where you cut out all the possible trouble foods for a week or so, then bring them back one at a time, and see what the reaction was.

Forget the hair testing or the tests they do in health food shops. They are all a joke.

what about the patch test thing they do - where you get a needle with different things in different sections of your back and see how your body reacts ?

am interested in finding out if I'm allergic to anything ? (have noticed I normally get a slight reaction to some dairy products)

Yes, that one works, but it's very specific. My DH had it for his hay fever and got a list of precisely what types of grass he allergic to.

Yes sorry its probably more food intollerences than allergies

so who do i go to for the needle test thingy?
was thinking the elimination diet would prob be the best option too or maybe a combination of both of the above?

Ask your doctor about the needle one. There are only a few places that do it properly. DH got his through his doctor.

The only way to prove a food allergy is with a blood test as antibodies will be present in the blood. However food intolerances and sensitivities can be measured using a few different tests like the skin prick test, kinesiology and electro-dermal machines which measure energy resistance and are very effective.
