Not the conventional type but I saw a stunning pair online today. I'll post a pic when I'm not on my iPod. They have some amazing boots.

I've for a few pairs, nobody would know there docks, there well made and built for life but they do take a while to break in. China Blue in Temple Bar is a great place to see the range and try them on.

One of my best bargains ever actually, €30 in TKMaxx :D

Needed comfortable shoes the other night because I'd run just under 19 miles that morning and my feet needed a break.

I just split the sole on my last pair. :(
    I need a new pair. :)
I've seen a pair of spectator (B&W twotone) docs. They will be mine.

I'm dying to get them but they are pricey at 100 euro odd. :(

My next mission is to get these they're $129.95. I am in love with them!! I can imagine all the outfits that would go especially now that it's coming up to winter. It's definitely my kind of purple too :D

spotted these. I really like them. can't say I can afford them though. need to get me a job

I got my first pair when I was about 7 they were white with little flowers on them from my sister. I wasn't too impressed with them at first but I was devastated when I grew out of them! :(

The second pair I got was a pair of the classic black ones. I used to wear them to school and on hikes for gaisce! :)

For Christmas one year my mum bought these for me they were €120 at the time but my god it's one of the presents I've used the most. They are so warm and I always get compliments on them when I wear them out. They are about 6 years old and they are lasting well! :)

b547r9.jpg I had to put my curling tongs in the boot to make it stand upright!

I got the luminous green docs in Newry TK Maxx baby £27.99! YEAH! I'm still trying to break them in, they have already made a nice mark on the back of my ankles! :) It's ok I forgive them! :)

This looks like a little life story! ;)

I love Doc Martens. Funny, it seems they never go out of fashion but they do come in from time to time, if you get me.
I inherited a gorgeous pair or orange ones with a kind of floral detail on them and they always get noticed. :)

Sort of like that? Can't find the exact ones.
Saving up for a pair of standard black ones, lovely.

^ I've never seen bright orange ones before, they look amazing. Think I'll need to scout out a pair.

I love Doc's, they're perfect for an Irish winter, being all grippy and waterproof. I'm currently breaking in my bright pink bargain pair from TK Maxx.

I got my first pair when I was a kid, and remember wearing them to DEATH. Sadly, my second pair didn't last very long when I wore them during my teenage working years in Supermacs, the sole let me down massively and the were so slippy.

Anyone else notice how Docs have changed over the past ten/fifteen years or so. Now they are a lot more chunky, particularly in the toe part. Here's a older pair to compare:

i really want to get a pair but when i tried one on, they were super hard and a bit painful. how long does it take to break em in? I don't want to be walking around with blisters and bloody toes everyday!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,766 ✭✭✭squeakyduck

I believe that some docs will never break in. What I do is wear thick socks under my tights and wear them out. Sometimes you will have blisters on your feet, put a plaster on them and try again. Your feet will get used to them eventually!

I think so too:( Some pairs have broken in really easily but others not so much. I wore my black flowery pair to take the dog for a walk (hadn't got them long), and got enormous cuts at the back of my ankles:( Now I only wear that pair if I know I'll be doing little or no walking.

My pink fleecy lined ones are the most admired pair of footwear I ever put on. I love docs cause they are ideal for my hobbit feet! Hadn't worn them since I was 21 but but the 8 pairs I posted I bought in the past year. I always keep an eye on Amazon for docs at knock down prices. Hoping they'll get the pair that darad posted in. They are lovely!

Currently smug and thrilled with myself on last night's purchase - 14-hole, black suede, sheepskin lined doc boots. BONANZA! I figure this way I can tie up military boots and shearling in one. And, the best part? Only 50 bucks! TK Maxx rules for Docs.

haven't had a pair since I was 13 and it feels so good to be back in them. Because they're suede, so far they're not total ankle biters. I'd say they'll take a little time to break in but not as much as usual, although my left heel is a little worse for wear this morning. :(

I'd say that they are the same as my pink ones but in black. They are called "Blair" Found them ok on the ankles. I love them so much!! Can only find a teeny tiny picture of the black blairs:(

i love docs, tho as ive got older i hate the wearing in of them!!
bought a new pair yesterday, the black floral ones on the schuh website, im in love with them sooo much. :D
    image1xxl.jpg
the first pair i had were 24 hole black boots that i eventually cut down to ankle boots and sprayed silver ( i was a teen!) i think i ended up putting rollerskate wheels on them...

i have purple ones too im trying to sell them cos i never wear them, but then i think i shudnt sell them!

i also have brown mary jane new styles ones which are sooo comfy but now theyve stopped doing leather insoles- they stink! cant wear them with socks!

i used to have white t bars with ladybirds all over them, wrong size so didnt like wearing them, and didnt go with any clothes i wore!

i had pink suede boots with pink stitching, they were the only ones that never needed wearing in as much, just the wrong size for me so i sold them too.

its a shame theyre not made in england anymore, theyre definitely not the same quality as they used to be.

On the one hand, I agree. From their history and how wrapped up they have been with certain subcultures, it does seem wrong to pretty them up.

On the other hand, to me what fashion is and has always been about is recycling a style with a new slant - turning things on their head. As I sit here in 14 hole boots, not originals, all lined with fluffy sheepskin, I don't look down and think they're cute - I think I'd kick the S*&£ out of someone with these on!! :p

If we only wore clothes/shoes/accessories in the way that it's 'supposed' to be worn, I don't think fashion would be as dynamic and fun as it is.

Love the past 2 pairs posted, will keep my eyes out for bargain prices on them:D Couldn't justify over €100 for a pair but when you can get them for €25-€50 a pair...well I can't resist.

I've been wearing them since I was a toddler!

Think I've had about 7 or 8 pairs. Maybe more. My Mother seemed to feel the need to dress me in ridiculously wacky ones when I was a kid. With fish and flowers and stuff.

I got an amazing pair of really high purple ones in tkmaxx last year. Love them!

I used always have them for school, I think my favourite pair were patent black with a cushioned ankle and rainbow coloured stitching and laces, I adored them. I remember my mom desperately trying to glue the sole back on after too much wear and tear but to no avail, was devastated. Had a good few boots, Mary-Janes and sandles down through the years, all super comfortable.

A few years ago my mom bought me metallic purple ones (which seem to be in so many shoe shops at them moment) and I wore them once but they tore the backs of my ankles so badly that I haven't risked wearing them again and I don't have the heart to get rid of them :(
Anyone know how to break those particular babies in?

I wanted those so badly when I was a kid! I had the plain black ones and my parents offered to buy me rainbow laces for them but it wasn't the same
