Gyms for someone who has never worked out?...

... I'm thinking of joining a gym, I have never worked out in my life, but I keep catching my girlfriend looking at toned, muscley guys, so I'm jealous lol, so I need to get a fit body, now I'm not fat or anything, my body is slim, it just needs a bit of pumping up, and I'm changing my diet of fast food and and endless booze as of this week.

Anyone know of any gyms (in Dublin, mainly City Centre or nearby) where someone like myself could start off? I heard Jackie Skelly is good, but does anyone here have any experience with them?

    Any help would be great:)

Been in Jackie Skelly and wouldn't recommend it from my own exp. City Centre wise RAW on South Richmond St is your best bet, or if you're willing to venture out northside a bit you could check out Informed Performance in Glasnevin.

Thanks, do I need to pay for any of these gyms by card? Or do any accept cash?

Coz I pretty much killed my Credit Card:o

would never ever go back to Jackie Skellys after a couple of really dire experiences with them. Lets just say their accounting practises as well as interpretation of contracts leaves a lot to be desired.

If you look you'll find a lot of people on boards have experienced similar.

    Mod hat off ;)

Just a note, but Jackie Skellys has been bought out by some UK firm I believe and a number of their premises are under going rebranding at present.

So it may be an idea to stop the Jackie Skelly bashing and give the new owners a chance to show how they intend to operate.

Hopefully the practices which got JS such a bad rep will be consigned to the past.

Do you say city centre because that's where you work/live or both?

I work in City Centre, but live about 10 minutes outside of it.

I was a member of Jackie Skelly for years and never had a problem with them. (Note I didn't try to break my contract though).

They are good if you want to be in a gym full of "normal" sort of people.

Currently I go to Citywest gym which is mostly big lads. It's a great gym though.

I would say hold off signing up with JS until the Energie rebrand is complete. It's hard to tell how much better they'll be, but apparently the pricing structure is a lot simpler and clearer in the UK than other gyms. It's also likely they'd have special offers to celebrate the rebranding so you might save a few euros too.

I sent an email to Jackie Skelly Clarendon St. and havn't heard back yet, but I have heard nothing but bad things about them, so I think I might try somewhere else, is the Fitness Dock any good?

I heard about a place called Fitness Together in Rathmines, but it's one on one training, so I presume it would be quite pricey.

    Hi

I spoke with Ciara there and she's lovely - she's invited me to their opening weekend on 23rd October and said she would personally show me around :) - jackie skelly wouldnt have done that from what I've heard haha.

1-0 to energie so far :D
