    I think one of the best games of the week is Werder Bremen v Spurs. Should be interesting to see how Spurs and VDV get on in Europe. Fancy a Bremen win here.

    The Bremen game will be interesting They have their two first choice CBS out though their replacements had a decent game against Bayern. Marko Marin is in my opinion one of the best talents Germany have and he is a constant danger.

    Anyone know if McGeady will be playing for Spartak? I might be going to the Marseille game.

    He played at the weekend and had an assist, so he might.

    As I've mentioned before I'm one of the few (actually not sure if the only) Ajax fans on here and let me tell you I've been looking forward to a return to CL action for A LONG LONG TIME.

    We're in a group that by my count contains 20 European Cups between them (no thanks to Auxerre), so it's definitely not an easy thing. I reckon we have a half-chance of finishing above Milan who have started their Serie A campaign poorly enough. But in reality we're still a level below them so an element of luck will be needed.

    But this thread is about matchday 1, and who do we have to start with? Real Madrid? Who? I think they're from Spain. We play them away first so I think it's obvious that I would bite all your hands off for a draw right now. You can keep your Bremen v Spurs...no offense...but for me Real v Ajax is THE match of the week. Come on Suarez!

    6 goals for him already this season in just 3 games, he'll have a big part to play for Ajax in the CL this season if there going to qualify ahead of Milan, hope they do it too.

    Best of luck! I think the Scotland England contest shades the match of the week! Manchester United v Glasgow Rangers has a special ring to it

    Yep. Like last year it's the spine of Stekelenberg, Vertonghen, De Zeeuw and Suarez who provide the real class. Supported by van der Wiel, El Hamdaoui and rising superstar Christian Eriksen and this is definitely the best squad in a good few years.

    And yes re: the last post, the United v Rangers tie is probably the best of the ties if I look at it from a neutral point of view. Good matchup but I expect United to beat them comfortably in the end.

    This would probably be the best formation to go with tonight
    Cudicini;
    Corluka, King, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto;
    Palacios, Huddlestone;
    ----Lennon, Van der Vaart, Bale;
    Crouch.

    It is only when you are away that you appreciate Irish TV,
    I'm in England this week and will have no football to watch on the TV tonight :(

    I'm talking free to view here of course.

    Im missing both these games but was really looking forward to seeing both United and Spurs play. I really hope Spurs do well, not least because I have money on them.

    Yeah was absolute class.

    Dunno whats up with Xavi's passing though cant really complain when he assisted one and had a role in the other two.

    Alves for me has been the bigger culprit. Wasted some amount of ball in the first half.

    Bryan Ruiz really is a class act. Surprised a bigger club hasn't come in for him.

    5th goal almost reminiscent of Alves' header against Malaga the season before last.

    Just read the Guardian's stats..

    24 shots to one. :pac:

    Not even a 45/1 shot would have a chance..

    That was some win for Los Che especially with no Banega and Soldado and Mata starting from the bench.

    Aduriz is having a cracking start to the season.

    Their opening goal will be up there for CL goal of the season as well. Absolute stunner.

    I wish I could agree.
    I agree that he's a great talent and also a great character but I'm afraid he will have to turn into an unbelievable footballer to make up for his lightweight frame. He makes Modric look like the Hulk.

    Debating which game to watch later - Arsenal Vs Braga or Real V Ajax. Both have potential.

    Same here, tthink i'll go with Real v Ajax, both games should be good though, Braga are a seriously good team and Arsenal will have there work cut out for them. Looking forward to seeing some of the Ajax players too, Suarez and Eriksen look very exciting at the minute. At least if one match is boring we can always flick to the other.

    Not 100% sure, but think suarez is suspended...

    open to correction bout that!

    Ronaldo and Di Maria should really have scored one of those.

    Missed the start, but seems to be:

    (Ramos?) Arbeloa Pepe Carvalho Marcelo

    Khedira Alonso

    Di Maria Ozil Ronaldo

    Higuain

    From a very poor quality stream, so might be wrong.:)
