Do i really need all these calories?

So here's the story. Over the last 2.5 months i've lost 15 pounds through lifting and strict dieting. I still have a bit to go though. I measured myself this morning and i've 18% body-fat. But i'm just sick of dieting and i'm back in college as well. So i'm going to start bulking for a few months. I've just started stronglifts 5x5.

I was looking through the stickies and found g'ems formula for calorie requirements for weight gain. It works out at 4000 calories. I'm just wondering do i really need to consume that many calories? I reckon i can get by fairly easily on 2500-3000 cals. My goal while doing stronglifts is to gain as much muscle as possible but if i could loose a bit of the fat at the same time then great.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can just try it and see, I found the figure too high for me using that calculator, it is only an estimate if you get to fat you are obviously taking in more than you need. I would also bet that the vast majority of people who think they eat say 2500kcal per day are eating more than that -it is far more common to underestimate your portions and forget about those sneaky biscuits, chocolates, milky coffees etc.

I used to aim for ~1800kcal knowing I would end up with ~2200kcal

did you use your actual body weight, or your Lean body mass?
There are a number of formulas, all similar some use body weight, orders leans mass. From memory, the on G'em posted uses lean body mass, but a lot of posters miss it.
