Dry mouth while training...

    Hi Guys,

I've been a member on here a while and have posted in the odd place but this is my first thread... so go easy on me

a bit of background... I train 2/3 times a week for football and try to get at least one other session of exercise in a week weather it be a game of 5 a side soccer with my friends, or head to the gym etc... and I always do a few exercises before I head to bed, push-ups, core work etc... I wouldnt class myself as seriously fit or anything but my fitness level is reasonably good...

anyway my problem is that I get serious dry mouth most of the time when im training and it gets even worse when im playing a football match...

so the questions people would normally ask, do you drink much water/keep yourself hydrated etc... yes I do... all the time... I work in an office and we have a water cooler and im always back and over to it filling up my bottle...

so im not sure if its my hydration level... anyone have any ideas???

    Cheers,
    Martin

Do you breathe through your nose or your mouth?

I generally try to breathe in through the nose and out from the mouth...

but it doesnt always happen like that... if im after a sprint or a few mins of an intense period of play in a game etc and im a bit short of breath ill breathe through my mouth to get air in... and then revert back to through the nose...

would this be doing it yeah??

    Are you thirsty?

I know it sounds odd but have you a thirst which you cannot quench?

You might want to consult a doctor as it could be a sign of diabetes.

Did they check for diabetes? They may not have.
I have a medical tomorrow and they are checking for drink/drugs/fitness, but not any disorders or conditions.
Diabetes was my first thoughts also

sorry man I missed this comment... I wasnt really sure what you meant until I had a look at some of the symptoms of diabetes...

no I dont think its that... im not thirsty all the time... its more of a drinking water for the sake of drinking water to be honest... ya know clean out the system and keep the skin healthy... I wouldnt be drinking crazy amounts of water a day... maybe 1.5 ltrs or less per day...

not really sure if they checked for it to be honest... I know the blood test uncovered something else that had never been spotted before... luckily its nothing serious though...

might have a look into it...

I know this might sound a bit odd, but do you brush your tounge when brushing your teeth?

I always notice that if I haven't brushed my teeth properly before the gym, that I get a very dry mouth.

I cant say I do no... might give it a try before my next session and see if that makes any difference...

ill have to try something anyway it can get so bad sometimes that my lips nearly stick together because of it...
