How to keep cats off a car

I've a new project car that's going into storage for a bit, the only problem is the cats that live in/around the shed - I'm afraid the little f*ckers will damage the paintwork.

I was gonna get a car cover to put over it - would this be enough or is there anything else (humane!) I could do?!

Now, the .50 Cal rifle is probably a bit too heavy for this job, as it may cause the cat to explode and follow through the bonnet and block.

You get the picture though. And yes, I do hate cats.

Apparently cats doesn't like citrus smells so maybe hang a few car fresheners around the shed.
Throw some rugs or thicker material on top of the cover in case their claws can penetrate it.

Then the cats just sit on top of the car to get away from the dog, and the dog jumps up on the car to get the cats....:D

Not really, cats normally go under the car.

And if you have a big dog there in the shed who give's a cat a hard time, a cat won't come near the place.

I would be more afraid of little f**kers setting fire to your car cover, possibly torching your pride and joy then the cats! lol:D:eek:

I appreciate your input but I don't want any damage to come to the car!

A cover might do the trick, you could put maybe some old blankets on the bonnet & boot/roof under the cover for extra protection perhaps?
Cats tend to get on cars moreso when they're warm, my friend always has cats & they'll sit on the bonnet of my car after I go in. They also like to be high up so again, the roof is a good vantage point. There is also a 'Keep Off' spray you can get that seems to help keep cats/dogs away afaik, so you could try that as well.

Well in that case, do not fire from an elevated position. Take a crouching position, below the line of the roof. As long as the trajectory of the bullet is rising then you should avoid causing damage. Unless of course your using depleted uranium rounds which will cause the cat/shed to disintegrate.

Ah no seriously, get a good thing cover for the car. That should solve the problem.

Not a chance. Two things attract cats to jumping on cars: the height and the heat of the engine (or the sun hearing the bonnet or roof). A cover that they can under only creates a third attraction.

Cats go wherever the hell they want, and the more forbidden the place, the more attractive. My next door neighbour had a 1968 Ford Mustang covered in his driveway. Over time the aerial poked a hole in the cover that eventually tore enough for my cat to hop through. I was forever fishing my cat out from under the cover, which of course only made him want to go in deeper and more frequently. The cover will work if it's tight and secure. Any gaps or holes, and the cats will find a way.

Somebody mentioned citrus. My cat used to leave the room squinting if you peeled an orange, so I'd definitely give citrus a go. You could also try those cat repellent crystals (pet shops and places like Woodies and Atlantic should have them). The only thing I would say is that cats get used to scents like that, so eventually they'll become immune to the citrus/repellent smell, so maybe alternate them.

Other option is to provide something more attractive for the cats away from the car. A cardboard box with an old blanket. That way (you hope) they'll be happy with that and stay away from the car.

How about one of those ultrasonic things that only cats can hear.... unless it might upset a dog too...

    I've had this happen before.

Car was a bit 'lumpy' starting one day, I noticed the smell after a week and when the neighbours child called in wondering if I'd seen his lost cat I put 2 and 2 together and got out the dustpan.

Not an easy or pleasant clean

My oul fella was pricing a trade in of a Jag XJ v8 when he heard funny noises coming from the engine bay. Lifted the bonnet and there were 4 kittens looking up at him! Lucky little fcukers

Rapidly rotating parts spell security for cats? They're dumber then I thought!

Well in fairness I've never seen a cat get into an engine bay of a running car :p

When the unpleasantness happened to my neighbours cat it appears the cat rested it's head on one of the belts and instantly used its nine lives when i turned the key

We had a cat once, who got to our house in an engine bay from a house 30 miles away!

A .22 should do the trick. I use hollowpoints, no exitwounds to write home about. Throw a piece of chicken into a safe spot in your yard to get them off the car, then send them to kitty heaven!

Seriously guys why all this cruelty to animals with guns and the like

Can we not just dispose of them properly like we should do with kitty litter
