I just want to vent at the kind of person that hasn't quite grown up, namely Jared Leto.

The guy's nearly 40 and he's whining away, teenage angst style, with 30 seconds to Mars. What's all that about? The guy really needs to get off cloud cuckoo land.

Does anyone else have a particular gripe with such people?

I think the fact that I don't know who Jared Leto is means not only have I grown up, I've grown old.:(

Heh. I didn't think he was that unpopular. He's been in Fight Club, Girl, Interrupted, and American Psycho. Minor roles, albeit.

Says the guy whining about a musician/actor on an internet forum? ;)

As for the man himself, I enjoyed his performance in Lord Of War and I like some of 30 Seconds To Mars songs, not so much others. He doesn't really bother me at all to be honest.

    Whiny emo sells.

That's why this guy acts like that. It's marketing.

Ah, come on. You like some of their songs? That says enough;). I'm not whining as such, but this kind of thing is acceptable for the kids, not this fella or others of the ilk. Courtney Love might fall into this bracket too.

He was THE heart throb in 'My so called life' with Claire Danes.

He's a really REALLY good actor! And i've seen him on some shows and he comes across as a REALLY cool guy.

He would be one of the coolest guys around........... were his band no so sh1te, Emo and whiney!

I can't stand that band or him (when he's in band mode)

You're right, how dare I not write off the entire output of a band based on a dislike of the lead singer. How narrow minded of me! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Rushden

Hold on why would he 'grow up'?? He's in a successful band for people who like that kind of music and is an actor. He's obviously doing what he wants and has been very successful at it, so what do you just expect him to quit the band and retire because you dont think he'd 'grown up'? pretty stupid tbh

    Really?

As for Jared Leto, men in their 30's exploiting teenage angst with insipid gayrock? Nah that's never been done before!

Eh, they're a pretty poor band to be honest. I'm just pointing out that for a guy that has been pretty successful as an actor has a side project band that shoots out some vaccuous songs. Its marketplace resides with teenagers. I just dislike that facet of his repetoire as a whole - I just thought he was past that emotive, angsty period. He's 39 for god's sake.

I don't particularly like the band either nor do I like his, at times, pretentious videos which he himself directs. None of those stop me from enjoying some of their songs though.

On a related note, what makes him being 39 and singing angsty lyrics any different from older metal bands singing aggressive music and rap stars singing about how life is so hard when, in many cases, life is pretty awesome for them?

I think he is a really cool bloke. Look at his interview with Alan Carr on his Chatty Man program. I think it's great that he is still full of life pushing on forty.
It's a really Western thing, that when we hit our thirties so many of us just act as if life is over. Like most Irish guys the same age as him have gained weight, and spend their life in the work/bookies/pub cycle. Irish people completely lose that sense of wonder at the world and that sense of fun that you have as a kid.
I for one would rather still be singing emotional songs as a forty year old, playing to thousands of kids worldwide, making money, making movies, travelling the world in a tour bus, all instead of being a miserable git in the pub giving out about everything. Lets never grow up! :D

Fair enough point. I did like the fella in that interview, as did I with some of the films he was in. My pretty mild rant probably indicates that he's prescient of mind not really to have to do the whole emo/teen thing. Surely he's beyond that.

But on-topic, have you listened to all their songs, or just one or two on the radio?
Also, two interesting concepts you might want to pay attention to,
    1) Don't buy their music if you don't like them.
    2) If they are on, switch station.

This is kinda an odd, vague thing for a topic.
personally, I went quite like the band. Went to see then in concert. Seemed nice enough, even stopped mid-song to tell security to leave the moshing kids alone.
I think the guys an average actor really, I guess grown up enough to be managing two careers?
Only thing that annoys me, is there over the top music videos (seriously, he never misses a change to show off his acting)
and how seriously they take themselves... calling there fans a cult, the whole "music will save you life" thing...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭Noodles5

Ha ha... a pretty poor band?
Um I dont think so.... they have been touring worldwide since the end of last year and the have dates set up well into next year....

Just cause it aint ur type of music doesnt mean they're a pretty poor band....

"Cult" think more a group of like minded people with awesome taste in music...

How you can call Jared Leto passed it is beyond me....30 seconds to mars is not emoy or depressing...their songs have meaning..unlike some of the tripe that is mass produced today...every song sounds the same....at least 30 seconds are able to stand upa nd not be afraid to be individuals...

I totally agree with you here and I have to add something:

Jared Leto is an actor and musician. He is just trying to do his bloody job and make money for himself. In fairness, I doubt he can do much else.
Telling him to "grow up" is like telling anyone doing their job for years and into their 40s to "grow up"

Yeah the fat side of the pic is when he put on a heap of weight to play Mark David Chapman in the film Chapter 27 i think. He lost all the weight pretty insanely quick which is I assume what you are seeing on the right. The middle is some weird internet dude that does these "me as you, you as me" things... don't bother looking him up, its stupid and a bit insane!
