3 of my top 5 favourites are even in this list

Ghostbusters (one of the funniest & successfull movies of all time 93% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Evil Dead 2(one of the most influential horror movies of all time 98% on Rotten Tomatoes)

Spider-man 2 (Possible the greatest movie in the comic book genre 93% on Rotten Tomatoes)

I suggest a more comprehensive list before starting

We spent two weeks nominating. I apologize for the omissions. I for one regret the omission of rebel without a cause

No one could ever get a perfect list together.

I must have really strange taste that 3 of my top 5 doesn't even make 300 movies nominated by others.

I don't think there is even 1 Sam Raimi movie in the list

    Ahem :)

Every movie mentioned in the nominations thread but didn't end up getting nominated. Just throwing it out there and pointing out that, at the moment, no votes have been cast as yet ;)

Have a look, some of them are bordering on crimes against nature not being there.

That would (seriously this time) have to be it though. Or we can plough on as before, either way.

Excuse my ignorance. Are you suggesting we should add those into the list.

If so, I concur. Lets just throw the whole fecking load of them into the mi :D

By the way, good luck comparing Wall-e and Casablanca :D

The full IMDb/Boards.ie hybrid list is now up including links to each movie's IMDb page.

This is just a bit of fun but it's important to state a few things before any votes are cast:

    Format:
We're looking for everyone to submit their Top 20 movies, from the list above, in order of preference, with 1 being your favourite, 2 being your 2nd favourite down to 20 being your 20th favourite.
Points will then be allocated to each person's choices in descending order, with your first choice getting 20 points down to your 20th choice getting 1 point. These points are totalled for every movie and we get our results. (This is just to explain the scoring, you do not need to refer to points in any way when voting)
For absolute certainty, it would be helpful if you put your favourite movie in bold, or write favourite next to it, just so I don't get your vote upside-down.

In the event of a a tie:
If two or more movies end up on the same number of points after all votes have been cast, the movie that appears the most number of times in everyone's top 10 will gain position (For this purpose each position within the top 10 will be weighted equally). If it's still a tie after that the movie with the highest number of 1st preference votes (The no. of people who put it as their #1) will gain the higher position. If that's still a tie, it'll be the movie with the most number of 2nd preference votes and so on until all ties are resolved.

    Change of votes:
You're welcome to change your votes up until the closing date of October 11th. Just remember to state clearly what you are changing.

    Invalid votes:
If someone votes for a movie that is not on the nominated list above, they can alter it or in the event that they don't or forget etc, that particular vote will not be counted and the remainder of their following votes will be bumped up one place.

    New accounts:
No votes will be accepted from boards.ie user accounts created after August 2010.

    Comedians:
If you take the pi$$, your votes will not be counted.

    FAO Mods:
Thanks for un-stickying and locking the nominations thread and for stickying this one.

Don't you assign your favourite a score of 20. ^ Your post above made it seem we were supposed to give it 1, at least to my idiotic little brain.

BTW, you can begin voting. What are you waiting for?

I mentioned Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter...and Spring on the nominations thread, but it was never put onto the list.

Was hoping this could be remedied.

May I ask why you're negative to this?

Seems rather odd that other films would be added, but not that one.

Because I feel that if we start re-reviewing a round of failed nominations, we'll inevitably wind up having another "nomination phase".

On second thoughts however, I will consider.

Hang on a second, have some films which were never nominated been added to the overall list after the fact? And are films nominated in the nominations thread missing from the list?

Starting to seem that way isn't it? I'll review this but as far as I'm concerned all nominated films are represented and yes, we did have a fair few wildcards :D.

Hey, all nominated movies are there. Spring Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring was always on the list but sometimes Fall is translated as Autumn.

Triangle was included also which you dropped in favour of Dark City (As part of the 40ish movies mentioned by various people throughout the nominations thread and added in as final community nominations, as most of them were movies you could imagine people wanting to potentially vote for)

There were a few movies called triangle so I took a guess at the 2009 German version but let thenakedanddead know if I picked the wrong one and they can alter that one for you.

Glad it's up and running now with a few votes cast which is good. I've been thinking about my nominations for a while and I have about 12/13 definites and around 20 maybes. Picking out the rest is going to involve lots of movie watching as there are many I have yet to see, especially from the boards nominations.

        FAO all voters:
Could you please put your favourite movie in bold, or put favourite after it, just so I know for certain which movie you're putting first and which you're putting 20th, thanks.

If you have already voted and are unable to edit your post for any reason, just post again saying which one was your favourite, that'll do me, cheers.

(This is to ensure I don't get your vote upside-down)

        xtal191 - cheers.
captainstacy - you're ok as you mentioned there were 3 sequels in your top 10 so I know which way is up.
brian keating - You've only listed 19 movies.

I’m not a regular film forum poster but can’t resist a good list.

        1. The Terminator (1984) (favourite)
        2. Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
        3. Das Boot (1981)
        4. Amélie (2001)
        5. Twelve Monkeys (1995)
        6. Inception (2010)
        7. Brazil (1985)
        8. Donnie Darko (2001)
        9. Apocalypse Now (1979)
        10. The Lives of Others (2006)
        11. Fight Club (1999)
        12. Alien (1979)
        13. Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
        14. Magnolia (1999)
        15. American History X (1998)
        16. Fargo (1996)
        17. Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
        18. Dances With Wolves (1990)
        19. The Shining (1980)
        20. The African Queen (1951)

That was really hard to do. I’ve done it about 10 times and I’m still not happy with it. Top ten is easy enough, after that, it gets tougher, there are just so many. I just went with the ones I’ve rewatched most often.

Difficult to pick just 20. I tended to pick films that were technically ground breaking as well as being engaging to watch...

List threads are usually frowned upon in this forum butin this case we're making an exception. :)

Can you both insert a 20th movie as ye've listed only 19.

All other queries are sorted now so I'll throw up the current Top 20 once I hear from ye.

Sorry, I've added 'Silence Of The Lambs' as the 20th film.:)

        Righto,

This is how the Top 20 currently stands with 17 votes in:
        Nackm.jpg

I'd urge anyone who has yet to vote to consider the entire list and not just the current leaders.
Every voter commands 210 points so it's very early days yet.
Each vote is having a significant effect and there are another 30 movies within one persons vote of breaking the Top 20.

Some (fairly useless) stats for anyone interested:
        • 3,569 points have been awarded so far spanning 174 different movies.
        • Jaws was leading for a time, then 2001 took over, now Apocalypse Now is at the helm.
        • The Godfather II and Terminator II have been slowly but steadily climbing the list.
        • Alien Vs Aliens are having an epic battle :D, just 6 points in it now.
