Lunges - Correct movement

I was wondering what the correct movement for a lunge with weights is.

I use dumbells; stepping forward, concentrating more on the downward movement of my knee, letting it touch the floor, rather than the size of the step I am taking.

I was watching a guy in the gym today doing lunges (granted he was using a bar and weights ) concentrating more on taking a large step and not allwoing his knee to hit the floor.

Which is correct? or does in depend on the area you are trying to work on?

    That's more than likely it.
A short lunge will work the quads more and a longer one will work the glutes harder.

That and balance, I find it easier taking wide steps when working with the bar and weights.

Like most exercises...it is almost more difficult to do it wrong than do it right and yet everyone still seems to manage to make a mess of it.

People take too big and too narrow a step which is the antithesis of awesomeness in lunging.

Keep your head up, chest up and your hips square...take a normal stride and ensure you are steping out at shoulder width and have your knee almost brush the ground....sounds easy doesn't it...it is...yet too many people still wreck it...it almost brings me to tears.

It's funny how you looking at someone carrying out, what you percieve at least, to be the exact same excercise you are doing but executing it differently. I feel like going over and just going, "so what are ya at there??" just to get a different perspective on it.

would it make a difference the speed at which you are lunging? this guy was barely down when he was hopping by up like a grasshopper.

    1. The 'nuances' are important...more important than people realise.
    2. Yes, it makes a big difference.

And push up using your heel not the ball of your foot!

Will right about posture...shoulders back, chest out!
