    :(

A fellow member on Briskoda forums like me was waiting and waiting for his new Octavia vRS CR170

It arrived last Friday to him.
He spent last Sunday polishing and cleaning it.

Similar rear end damage to an Insignia SRi last week that the lady had for 9 days.

She wasn't best pleased to say the least. Think it's in being repaired at the moment.

I really hope nothing like that happens to yours Vectra.

    Well,
As Homer Simpson says "Only for bad luck I would have no luck"
I can see something very similar to this happening.
Then on the other hand i do tend to have a habit of staying well ahead of following vehicles :D

Dont know why this is worth a thread to be honest, new mundane run of the mill skoda in boring collision shocker. First I expected to see something exotic then when i realised it was a skoda i expected a serious and unusual bit of damage, im just a little underwhelmed

I don't think it'd have made any difference.

The lesson i'd take out of that (if any) is that shiny cars tempt Fate.:)

Really is sod's law. I work with a guy here who got his first brand new car about 3 or 4 months back.

Within 2 weeks his wife scraped every panel on one side of it in a car park, and last week someone drove into the back of him in rush-hour traffic.

Bloomin 'eck! I wouldn't want the car back if it were me, no way would I enjoy owning a brand new crash repaired car. Looks like some serious damage but would it be enough to write off?

He'll get the price of a brand new one from insurance, so not to worry too much, could be worse, no injuries. If the insurance companies try to opt out of the full cost of a new one, a solicitors letter will work.

I've had cars come directly from the delivery bays to me, and they needed 2 days work to get them perfect. Audi are the worst for it from what i've seen.

Only problem with that is that it will take another 12-18 weeks for it to come through.

Actually I'm quiet interested to know how the insurance company handle the claim and if it is written off in the end.

It's 'real world' stories and advice I find interesting on here

No its not. Vectra has posted a topic for discussion, i find the crash and situation underwhelming. The car isint exotic, the damage isint crazy and the person is fine. It happens every day all over the world. I posted my opinion to that extent. Why do people have a problem with this? Id say something if it was the guy who owned the car posting but its some randomer in the uk.

So you'd like to ogle over some fatal accident or enjoy some guys poor luck who has made ribbons of a piece of rare exotica?

TBH I agree with cpoh1, while it is terrible that a new car was slapped from behind, it's hardly stop press news. As for being run of the mill car, probably not, but not much more than run of the mill car, unless the extra polishing makes it one.

    Who said that?

If it was a guy with a brand new M3 owned by someone on here that was covered in paint by some vandles or crushed to smithereens by an artic after it was parked outside his door it might be more newsworthy but its not. Its a skoda octavia owned by a guy in the uk (not on here) with basic and possibly repairable damage to their car. Not quite the same thing. In my opinion of course, which is what a message board and threads are for right???

To be perfectly honest I dont care about you enough to keep going about this but what I will say is that this thread is a very interesting one for me and is one I have read and will look forward to reading the follow up of because it is as was already said a real world occurrence.

This isn't shock an awe forum designed to show off all the cool stuff that happens in the motoring world but it is for real world discussion. If a thread doesnt suit your opinion keep reading the main page until you find a thread you want to have a positive contribution to. You are not contributing positively in this thread.

    Now, enough of that.

That happened to my mam a few years ago, very lucky that the car didnt suffer any horrible damage like that. Just a boot lid. It can happen so damn easily!

Indeed, it's actually a worse shunt than it initially appears to be. Dose...
I've seen people claim over 10k for personal injury for shunts with far less power involved, that guy should count himself lucky if no-one in his car was hurt.

I can only imagine he blurred the numbers out in the first pics as the car was new and perfect then and wanted to avoid identity theft which is common practice.

I gues he just couldnt be bothered after it ended like that :(

As for the poster whinging that it is not important nor interesting as it is not an exotic car..!
Do all things in life have to be for the rich and famous..?
No wonder this country is in the state it is.

I would imagine this hurts the owner much much more than it would hurt a soccer player or singer or an F1 driver who can just walk away and buy another lambo or whatever you imagine it should have been

The guy posted this stuff on here looking for a response and/or discussion presumably and i gave my opinion like i am entitled to. Again the car, the damage and the situation are all pretty mundane and underwhelming. It is a tragic situation for the owner but to be fair its not interesting or news worthy. How it pans out with the insurance company is also irrelavant becuase it is the uk and they operate differently there. Again a forum is for discussion and i am entitled to voice my opinion. Ban me if people dont like this

That's a way to have irrepairable damage caused to your car in the event of an accident. It does seem to be a popular styling upgrade for Octavias though, particularly TDI's...

To be honest, if I had a brand new car, I'd feel worse if someone keyed it than run into the back of it. Insurance will usually have the car repaired to a professional standard that won't harm resale value, whereas a respray for the latter would be coming out of your own pocket and you will risk having mismatched panels.

    I will for sure
All I know now is that it is going/gone to the other parties insurance companies garage of choice for an estimate of damage caused.

    Hey dude..
How do you know about the blackwater super drivers :D

My one was supposed to be on the boat last Saturday but didnt get there on time. Next sailing is on 21st this month so am pretty confident it will be with me before the end of the month.

From the owners point of view this is his basic report on the damage :
The central rear of the car is pushed in approx 8inches , i rescued gear from the boot by dropping rear seat and the parcel shelf was pushed forward over the rear headrests and the boot carpet had a good 6 inch fold in it. Looking down at the damage the metal panel of the hatch has gone in past the boot floor position. There is a crease on the rear nearside column at the angle of the quarterlite, a small crease approx 2/3rds along the length off the door on the roof edge, the rear nearside panel is rippled. The offside rear panel appears warped, the fuel flap would not close and the gap at the back of both wheel arches and door frames was smaller than at the front of the arches and doors.

The most nervous times when changing your car are the last few days of the old one, and the first few days with the new one.

Poor fecker, doesn't matter if it's a brand new Skoda or '95 Micra, it's the guy's new car, anyone would be gutted if it happened to them.

OT: those HUGE reflectors on the lower bumper look ridiculous
Also OT: I think the new rear light lenses on Octavias make the car look albino-ish ?
