Weights or Resistance Bands?

Ok so I just bought p90x and I'll be starting it next week probably, and I was flicking through the booklet last night and it says I can use EITHER weights or resistance bands. So which should I buy? I've never used resistance bands before so I havent got a clue what they're like.

I have the pull up bar already and I'll be getting a heart-rate monitor and exercise mat in argos later on.

On another note, the booklet says to buy all sorts of shakes and recovery drinks and protein bars and supplements too. I take centrum every day but I dunno if I should switch to something else. And I'm lost when it comes to shakes etc. I don't mind buying them but I just don't want to be spending a fortune on stuff I might not need!

Any advice is much appreciated!!! :)

    Hiya
Personally I would use free weights cos at least you can quantify the actual weight you are lifting that way whereas with bands you will never know exactly. Now thats only my opinion. Have you looked at the p90x forums on beachbody.com? whats the general consensus there?

I haven't checked on the forums as of yet. I just thought I'd check here first because I know there's a lot of people in here who know their stuff.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be getting a set of free weights so. Any reccommendations as to which ones to get? Preferably not ones that'll break the bank!
And I'm still lost when it comes to which supplements and shakes etc. :o

I am puncing for kettlebells as an alternative option.

get diet right before you go for supplements but cant go far wrong with a good multivit and fish oils

With P90X the diet is definitely one that needs a lot of planning in advance, as you wouldnt have lots of stuff in the cupboard or frdge thats on it. If you stick to it very strictly then you will get the best results but the diet is very much aimed at an american audience with some of the food they have listed. I am almost finished Insanity and i didnt follow the diet just eat clean with lots of protein on workout heavy days. I take a multivitamin, glucosamine and a berrocca each day and i think im doing ok.
