Push Over, was a quality game.

Those Silica mail order ads used to rub it in my face in Commodore Format that I had a crappy C64 and not an amiga :(

There was nothing crappy about a C64!! Was awesome in its time!

I have a modded Amiga A1200, Expansion card, CompactFlash drive, and a VGA output, it's a work of art really. Great machine, unfortunately I have it packed away in the Attic! I had to move a load of my precious retro consoles\computers out of the spare room due to the arrival of my new son...

Anyone remember the game they had in Rathmines Swan Centre. It had 2 Amigas in parallel powering a 3D VR simulator game with headset. And this was almost 20 years ago.

Hi Tricky, I'm not from Dublin but I was living up there many years ago and vaguely remember looking in the window of what i belive now to be an xtra vision video rental store and they had the VR set up in there, and I lived in Ranelagh, not a million miles from Rathmines and did frequent the Swan centre, was there an xtra vision store in the Swan centre back then ? If so maybe we're definitely talking about the same set up ?

Funny they never mentioned the blinding headaches and motion sickness in a large number of people who tried it! While VR is dead I think we can look forward to Augmented reality. Now that could be seriouslyl freaky... I'm being chased by a giant pac-man and am I'm not on acid!

Had an Amiga 600 back in the day. Fantastic machine, had a ton of games for it. Packed it away in the attic around the PS1 days - when I went looking for it later my mother informed me she's given it to a charity shop. Only recently begun to forgive her for that.

Mine did the same. Of course it was gone by the time I got to the shop to try buy it back. I've never really enjoyed computer games since.

    North and South.

Thou my all time favourite that I still play on occasion was Nuclear Wars. Great stuff. Maddening in its way.

Still have my A500+ in the attic, will never part with it. Games like, Cannon Fodder, Sensi Soccer, Syndicate, James Pond, First Samurai and of course Xenon II. But what stole the show for me was the following demo, this is what convinced me to buy the Amig over the Atari ST . . .

It still blows my mind today, nearly 20 years on, to think that came on a 1.44mb floppy and ran on a 7Mhz cpu!

    So many many happy memories.

    Cheers,

Hope you removed the battery inside the A500+,they where prone to leak!.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭sombaht

Were the batteries on the actual mobo or within the trapdoor expansion cards?
Never thought about it until you mentioned it. Might try a power-up this weekend to see if its still alive.

    Cheers,

If i remember right it was in the card itself, but its in a metal casing,so open it up,and if it has leaked,it should had only leaked within the metal casing,so if its broke you should be able to pick up replacement A500+ ram easy enough on ebay,on all my cards and old computers,i always removed the batteries,as most of them only served to save the time and date, there is batteries that dont leak like the coin/sealed ones, but i dont take a chance,i remove them.

Oh no! The guy I bought that Amiga from said hes having awful trouble with the RAM expansion. Opened it up and there was corrosion from the battery. Lucky he tested it again before sending it out.

He's after ordering a new one for me and should have it installed by next week.

Damn old hardware! Anyone know if that RAM will work without the battery? Is it for anything other than a system clock? If that's all it is it'll be coming out as soon as I get it.

Board itself is powered by the amiga mb,battery most likely it only serve to save time and date*which you never need*,the A1200 board itself doesnt have a battery inside, most likely it probably be a coin type battery,if its stuck on board, you can get an electrical shears and snip it off.

+1 for SpeedBall 2. Used to have the version they ported to PC but it was very unreliable.

Also liked Ports of Call - nothing fancy about it but a great timewaster.
