September 20th. One of those hidden pieces of info - buried over at the right hand side.

As a games museum it looks kind of fun and interesting, doesn't look like it has any actual games/hardware for sale though.

I dunno. It's on in the Ambassador. Everything in the Ambassador is unmitigated rubbish.

The rich history of games designed for children is explored in this section. Playable games include Hey You! Pikachu (Nintendo 64)

I'm going to falcon punch whoever said that

Still if it's going to be playable at the expo....

Emmmm, that might have been me :o, but in my defense the creators of the exhibition do have it in the kids section, can't be blamed for that, or can I? :pac:

    Oh and it is playable

You'll find the list of the early arcades that are in it on the Game On Dublin Facebook page, the wiki page is from a few years ago I'd say and the exhibition evolves a bit for each new venue.

 Okay, I'll let it go this time :P

I'll probably head along one of the days.

I went to the opening night of the original Game On in London back in 2002 when I was alot more active in the arcade scene. It was excellent and well worth the trip. Havent a clue what this is like or even if the same games and guys are involved.

    Maybe worth a trip.

I went to Game-On when I was in Melbourne. It was defo worth a look, nice to play Puckman on a real Puckman cab and to see a "Computer Space" cab - well, thats what they had in Melbourne so unsure if they will have it in Dublin.

The Dublin show seems a bit funky with the charging per hour they have but suppose it will stop folks staying there all day.

This seems pretty interesting, but this is one of the least intuitive websites I've ever tried to get information from.

Do you want to give us some feedback and I'll see what we can do about the website? What info are you looking for?

Hmmm, okay but only because you asked.

It's just generally a good idea to have your main page be all the concise information you think people will need, but the style of the site has the main page be a gigantic wall of (optional, unneeded) text.

    But to break it down
Your main page, and list of games page are the same unneeded wall of text, this should on an additional info people can go looking themselves if they want
Your exhibition layout page is blank
ALL your seperate pages under the information tab should be on one page (the main page) since this is everything people would want to know
Your gallery, which I was hoping would show your set-ups in previous countries (as the other guys have said existed) to give a good idea of what you were about, is actually just a bunch of random stock photos of characters and consoles, which tells me nothing.
A lot of useful information seems to be hidden in the scroll window on the right hand side

I am interested in this, but even after going through your website page-by-page, I still don't have a solid idea what this is all about.

Thanks for your feedback, there's some fair points and I'll look at what we can do to improve the home page, maybe we should be looking more at having a news page there, as you say the what's in Game On is elsewhere on the website.

In terms of your other points:
    • The Exhibition layout is currently blank because the exhibition is being installed at the moment and with the best will in the world, these things will always be tweaked a little from the design plan once people get in on the ground. Once it's fully installed we'll get a layout up.
    • In terms of the information tabs that's a bit more subjective, some people would prefer it on the home page as you suggest, we just feel it's easier to follow this way.
    • The gallery is just stock photos at the moment, but we'll hopefully have install photos up once the exhibition's in. Felt it would be misleading to have install shots from other venues as every exhibition has had their own touches to it and been a bit different.
    • The scroll window on the right is from the Game On Dublin Facebook page, we're announcing different sections of games on there on a daily basis and once the full section has been announced on Facebook it goes up on the website. If you go to the list of games on the website you'll see there's tabs for the early games and top ten section which I've announced already. We've announced some of the families section on Facebook, but have more of it to announce today and tomorrow as it's a big section.
Thanks for coming back to me with your points, always helps to have other peoples view points on something. In terms of getting a feel for the exhibition itself, if you read the text that's on the home page at the moment you'll hopefully get a good feel for what's it's all about.

Anyone know how long it goes on for? Probably won't be able to get the finance to see it this week.

Bit weird that the website just gives times but no dates...great idea though! ^_^

Is this pay at the door or do I have to book?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,405 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Pay at the door. If you book ticketmaster will rape you for service charge. Don't worry it's never fully booked out either.

Excellent stuff. One last thing, can you bring a camera or will I have to go covert and use my mobile...
