It's been mentioned over on the Modified Cars sub forum, but I guess the majority of people hang out on motors rather than over there.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055994735

I've been to a few events in the past but they were always based at horse racing tracks, like punchestown and limerick racecourse so they were kinda crap. This might be alright though, seeing as its an actual track.

Ill be hitting the track in the last session, but ive to be there for 8  thank god Monster are going to be there time to stock up. IMO its irelands best car show, dont get me wrong it needs work but it seems to be getting better every year, the track sessions, drag events and drifting is what sets it apart, just hoping the weather holds out, 08 was a scorcher, 09 was wet, fingers crossed for this year

If you want to attend to drag how much does it cost and how do you enter?

Im not 100% i think maybe 40 but that includes your entrance, plus last time i was there that got your passenger in free too, what have you got to drag? I know alot of the hardcore drag racers dont like the setup as the straight is used so ive been told its a little short of your usual, not sure if theres a different or improved set-up this year?

Nah, drifting cars is as pointless as teaching cats to bark. Go around the friggin' track at speed for feck's sake!

Nothin' wrong with drifting IMO but I would be happy to attend purely for the drag. Fecked if I'm gonna pay €40 for one or two runs though.

Well theres Time Attack as well which is exactly that.
I would probably be most interested in Time Attack and Drag, but the drifting can be good at times, depends a lot on the track I guess.

Im a grip lad myself but what a pointless post imo, drifting is amazing its not about racing and requires alot of driver skill, its not little knackers doing rings in a car park

I could be wrong tbh, i wasnt there in 09 so im going by 08 prices if you give me 2 min i can double check this years pricing. I know there was words from the drag guys in 08 as you can get all day drag racing up in bishopscourt for 50 and mondello is a few practice runs and a shoot out, good to watch and really adds to the atmosphere, but if its still 40 its a bit much, you never told me what you have i take it its an american muscle car

If its that much for drag racing you might as well save your money and go to straightliners in Enniskillen on the 19th.

I think they are doing the organising but no timing setup  just checked the price its actually 50 euro  , looks like they need to sort out their drag situation, but like i said the whole show needs to be perfected but its the kind of event we need in Ireland imo

No timing set up and €50 for a couple runs? No thanks! Fair hike to The Pod but it's £20 to race all day long in a proper dedicated strip.

Enniskillen a lot cheaper and set up for the purpose too. No thanks Mondello!

Im all for promoting mondello and Japfest but im with you on the drag racing, its just silly money, shame because its good to watch battles. Could really make it like pinks with the right person on the mic

Yeh it seems to be one of the better shows and hopefully they'll improve year on year and realise their mistakes.

I think they are but the drag event seems to let it down, well we will see on the day what the turnout is like, are you going?? Did i see you by any chance round duleek in the ST the other day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,080 ✭✭✭✭Big Nasty

If the fee was like €20 and gave you 4 timed runs in the drag I could be there with 10+ lads if not more. Mondello need to try harder - there's plenty of us out there that would like to compete but the exhorbitant fees turn me right off!

Yeh it's a shame about the drag racing!

I doubt I'll be going one of my bet friends is leaving for Japan and his going away party is the night, I dont think I'll be in a fit state to drive on Sunday :D

It would have been two or three weeks ago when I was last in Duleek I'd say.

your dead right, i think 20-30 would be good for the few timed runs and the entry in, sure ill be watching to see how it goes, if it doesnt go well then ill pass on some opinions to mondello im sure they would like to hear peoples thoughts

Got it wrong on the timing

"It'll be timed with Mondello's own breaker beam under the bridge. "Sideways racing" lights will still indicate if there is a jump start.

    My bad

Sideways racing know what they're doing in relation to the timing anyhow!

Can anyone come along to this without taking part in anything??

EDIT: Just remembered, not a good idea for me as i'll be coming from Thurles! I hear there's some important hurley game on in Dublin.

ive heard to just go down and spec it is quite expensive as oposed to a normal day out in mondello. My mate who went down last year said it was not worth the money. Ive been to normal day outs in mondello and they were great and all, but im not sure abotu japfest. How much is it in then? Do they charge the kids in as well? Im thinking of going but not so sure....

They sure do, another company we need to support in ireland, bringing some good quality events to the country, same again they need work but i like how they take on comments.

15 euro if booked online, thats not too expensive, specially when you factor in the free monster :D

Also, is Mondello anyway like the Nurburgring where you pay €10 or whatever and go round it a few times in your own car?

I am afraid not, however you could ask around in the paddock for a passenger lap or two. Most drivers wont have a problem with it, I never refuse if I am asked.

I don't think someone would want to have their lap time double due to me being in the car haha

I was just wondering because I'm interested in seeing what the whole thing is like and trying to beat my own lap times etc.

Ive been told that no passengers are allowed for Japfest  i tried contacting mondello but ive got no reply yet, i thought the usual over 17 and has helmet rule would do the job but i was told its a no-no, was planning on bringing the nephew round with me, fingers crossed they reply to me

Yes, its always a bit of fun going to the track to watch a bit of motorsport (and the drifting). The more people the better the atmosphere for the drivers.

Any thread relating to drifting, you always seem to say something negative about it,it is a motorsport whether you like it or not so just accept it.

Japfest this year will be good, plenty to see and do there.

Oh ok, I dont think I am working at the track this weekend so I dont know the details exactly. If your stuck I can try to find out for you in regard to passenger laps.

    Oh and drifting isnt motorsport

That would be great but only if its not out of your way, more room for camera gear if i dont have a passenger :D i should be trying out a new HD camera so you will be able to tell me how bad my driving is again :D

Nice! What camera are you using to record footage? I just got my 924 running so I might bring her down for a slow lap or two.

Ive no idea to be honest all i know is its a JVC and shoots at full HD  ill be collecting it tomorrow, nothing better than free :D i love 924`s one of my favourite porsches specially after being to the ring, you would be sick at the sight of 911 GT`s  i would say you find it hard to do a "slow" lap there, ill keep an eye out what colour is it?

The entrance fee to the show is €20.00 so the drag works out at €30.00 as against £50 for a 'sideways' event. While it is not a full drag sprint you will get plenty of runs in practice and the finals in front of a good crowd.

Yes its €20.00 to spectate and for that there will be a full days track action and a paddock full of exhibits.

Prices are €20 for Adults - €10 for 12-16 year olds - Under 16's free. Grandstand seats are €5. The circuit charges for grandstand seats as when they did not people would not leave the stand to go and see the paddock for fear of losing their seats. This way you are guaranteed a seat all day.

How did you try contacting them. PM me if you wish with the answer as I can look in to why you did not get a reply. The rules are the same as for a track day. One passenger free per driver, Over seventeens only allowed and they must sign-on.

Right, just got word off mondello that all website/club stands will have an option to let a car on the track for 20 minutes at a cost of 30 euro on top of the 20 euro entry fee.

I am entering a stand into the show on sunday, if anyone want to come on board please drop me a PM today to arrange :)

I used the Email provided on the website, Are you 100% about same rules applying, thats what i would have thought but the organisers on my site said at Japfest no passangers are alowed, i put this down to maybe too many people in the drivers briefing since there are lots of clubs going out  if you could get me official word that would be great as ive a car mad nephew who missed the last CF ireland charity track day who would love to get out with me for a few laps.

    Thanks in advance
    LIGHTNING wrote: »
Thats a very decent price, you can get in quite a number of laps in 20 mins. If its the national circuit you should be able bang out 12-15 laps no problems. Usually people get tired before that number or their cars gives out :)

I think its the perfect opportunity to try the track out and have a good show, you would nearly pay more for a session out go-karting, personally its what got me into tracking my car so beware its ADDICTIVE and also word of warning if anyone does decide to go out, just take it handy take your time and have some fun build it up slowly ;)

The drag definitely needs work, but its not sold as a drag show its more entertainment and to showcase the sport, i would love to see a full time strip based at mondello though, havent been to enniskillen but i believe its gathering a fair bit of support, i think its what the country need tbh canada proved that ;)

A dedicated drag strip at Mondello would be great, traveling up north can be a bit of a distance for some people and last i heard Tullow had no timing equipment

****in death trap, and the extended run off is a field! I would rather take my chances against the law dragging on the street than in a farm yard! There's a good following of draggin' in this country be it proper performance Jap, German beasts or American Muscle. I know Mondello have the monopoly but their fees are exhorbitant hence I'm unwilling to participate in their shows. If their fees were resonable I would be there every few weekends - when will they realise this? half of no loaf is better than no loaf at all!

God forgive me, but it's an awful pitty we didn't participate in WWII as we would have an awful lot of unused airports now that could be converted into race circuits. Most circuits / strips in the UK are ex army bases. Mondello need some competition to show them the should cop the fcuk on!

    I haven't seen a schedule, did I miss it??

Also, I bought my ticket online but the confirmation I received isn't a printable ticket and it appears the tickets were to be posted to me. Will the booking reference number be enough, I tried calling the number on the mail but the ticket office is closed.
