With the trials on Sunday week at Longchamp this is getting close now. If Fame and Glory wasnt good enough to win it last year or realistically come second as nothing was beating STS, then I cant see him winning it this year. Massive doubts about Workforce and St Nick so the 2 I fancy are the Aga Khan Behkabad @ 6-1 and Planteur @ 10-1. Both were last seen in the Grand Prix de Paris with Behkabad getting the better of Planteur. What I really liked about both of them was the staying power of Behkabad and the turn of foot of Planteur. Planteur looked like he was going to fly by but Behkabad galloped right to the line. 2 classy horses and will be primed for the Arc. Any fancies betting here:

I don't think this is the strongest Arc in the world to have Fame and Glory as short as 5/2,I think we've been spoilt by Zarkava and Sea The Stars the last two years. Probably the most wide open group 1 that I can remember, I'd back two fillies each way,Daryakana at 33/1 and Dar Re Mi at the same price.

Think its Fame ad Glory's race this year. He was gone over the top last year as had very tough campaign. Only really had to be close to top form to win the coronation this year the rest were really just glorified gallops.

Workforce wont win it even if he goes.

St Nic would be interesting but would be an incredible training performance to do so

At 33-1 Youmzain is a good e/w bet

Agreed,I think St Nic can't be ruled out,but I couldn't back him with any confidence. Workforce won't win another group 1.

what ever likes soft ,full stop.Fame and Glory has no chance.Warper makes plenty of sence.St Nic are you all gone mad.

Why has Fame and Glory no chance

Erm...didn't Sea The Stars have a morbid fear of soft going? Didn't harm him too much!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I wouldn't have said he had a huge fear of soft. He won on yielding and good to yielding, but won the Arc on good,he never had a go on proper soft. Daryakana was beaten 0.12 lengths in a group 1 on good to soft, still think she has a huge shout if she can return to form.

It was often the case that until the day of a race, you didn't know if STS was running or not as they deliberated over the going.

I reckon they would have ran him in the Arc even if the ground was soft,or else maybe bypassed it and went to the Breeders' Cup instead. I would have loved to see him go there. When I saw his Arc win,4/5 for the classic looked a bargain for me.

Fame and Glory out to 5/1 with some firms for the Arc.

Huge price, but don't think he'll do it. The Arc is a bridge too far I reckon, mind you,he was fantastic in the Coronation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,838 ✭✭✭Nulty

He doubled in price. There obviously something wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

The Arc trials are on this Sunday so should learn a bit after these though they are only prep races with no horse 100%. F&G is going straight to the Arc as far as i know.

I could not have Fame and Glory at 10/1 to be honest, very wary of everything Ballydoyle this year.

Behkabad looks the obvious one, I would not discount Youmzain and Cavalryman either, I think track form is a huge positive around Longchamp.

I will probably be going big each way on Youmzain, although poxy Cavalryman cost me the straight tricast last year so might have a small bet on him to keep karma happy!!

I agree, its the worst Arc in years, I was hoping for another big ante post touch but not this year. I took Sea The Stars @ 14/1 last year and Zarkava at 7/1 the year before. No easy money for me this year :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

Right, the major trials are now over and Behkabad has gone fav after narrowly beating Planteur yesterday. Both trainers have come out saying there is more to come so these 2 are the two to beat imo. Behkabad looked impressive yesterday and one thing for certain is he gets the 12f. Still a little doubt whether Planteur is a true 12f horse but he is a major danger and possesses the better turn of foot but Behkabad is brave and strong.

Midday was impressive too yesterday but its not known whether she will go to the Arc or head straight to America for her Breeders Cup defense. Byword got stuffed too. It is going to be tough for anyone to beat the 2 French colts though.

Does anyone know why Fame and Glory swerved a prep race for the Arc? It will be nearly 2 months between his last race and the Arc. Not doubting O'Brien will have him ready but it would be a small concern.

The real shame is that Harbinger wont be there to put some arguments to bed.

Apart from FAG what else is O'Brien sending over. Will he send Cape Blanco, Jan Vermeer (St Nicholas Abbey???) or will it just be one or 2 pacemakers for FAG?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Read somewhere that Midday will go to the Breeders' Cup Fillies and Mares' race. Didn't even get to see the trials,I haven't even seen the favourite run yet,so can't really go up against them. I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say I don't fancy Youmzain to place.

I'd say FAG is being aimed at the Arc and the BC Turf so is just being kept for a late campaign. Cape Blanco could run too, I doubt JV will run and I dont know about SNA.

I'd be unsure about betting for Fame And Glory in America at the end of the season. I think he has a much better chance in the Arc this year than last year,he had a very hectic campaign last year. That said,I still wouldn't be on him for the Arc.

Sorry mate, I could not disagree more, as per my previous post I reckon Youmzain will go very close again. In fact I would even say if he still has his turn of foot he can pick off Behkabad. If Daryakana stays in she could be very interesting, she has track and distance form and ignoring Harbingers incredible run as Ascot she was only a neck off Youmzain and 3 1/2 lengths off Cape Blanco in that race and it was her first run of the season and as a four year old. I think I just convinced myself to back her :)

Daryakana had ran twice before that race. And I wasn't putting down Daryakana,I've been saying she's my each way bet. Just can't see Youmzain getting placed this year.

I know she did, I was just saying it was her first run this season so she should come on for it. I got on her at 33's anyway :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Sorry I mean she had already ran twice this season.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

According to Attheraces, she had only had three runs, two were last year as a 3 year old.

Irishracing says different, she was beaten twice this year (narrowly) by Plumania, who is also 33/1 for the Arc.

    Damn you Rupert Murdoch!!

At least I don't have much on her, that link puts her in a different light!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

I think she can reverse the form though, she was beaten narrowly and I think she might just prefer a softer surface, although plumania beat her on good to soft last time, but only by a short head. Might back the two of them each way

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

I have convinced myself to back Youmzain, the way he finishes in Longchamp and his form wasn't great either before last years Arc.

Get on my friend. I got 33/1. He's 16/1 now i think. What a story it would be for him to bow out at the highest stage with a win

I don't know why I took so long, I only got him at 14/1 , Hughes is getting the leg up too.

I would be surprised if I am not collecting on the day, i have small interests on Daryakana at 33's and Bakhabad at 10's.

Where did you back him at 14/1?
    16/1 is still available

Bet365 is 14/1 for youmzain. Thats a very interesting appointment but dont think this arc will be won going for home so far out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

The way this race is looking and now with the prospect of very soft ground on Sunday, it looks nailed on to be won by a French horse. French horses have this race in mind all season. Lemaire has predictably chose Behkabad over Sarafina and is a worthy fav. I still think it is between him and Planteur but Fabre is gonna supplement the French 2000 Guineas winner, Lope de Vega at a cost of 100k. Massive doubts over whether he will stay esp. with the ground but if he does is a big danger at 20-1. Reverse forecast though Behkabad and Planteur.

Wouldn't put up 100k for Lope De Vega unless they must really fancy him. Workforce runs.

Daryakana doesn't nor does Plumania,my two fancies.

    sh1t one.

I think Midas Touch is a very big price considering he's likely to be up with the pace and stays near two miles. Obviously very slow but the ground will balance the need for speed and stamina.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Loup De Vega and Midas Touch are my 2 against the field.

Loup De Vega destroyed Cape Blanco and Plumania in the French Derby. He was dropped back in trip last 2 runs but he should stay the 1m4f.

Midas Touch will plug on and could snatch 3rd.

Dutching doth Behkanbad at 4/1 and Plantuer at 7/1 looks at very good bet to me.

I cant see what is going to beat them.

Wait,Plumania is in,she wasn't priced up in Ladbrokes earlier.

Just had a dream about the Arc ;).
Turning into the home stretch was Cape Blanco and Bekhabad 4 lengths clear of the field.
Bekhabad came wide to take it up from Blanco but Blanco kept fighting on and 1f out, ran on and won by 3 lengths.
I love that horse but I doubt its a likely outcome. Good dream though!:D

I remember I had a dream the night before the race that Raven's Pass won the St. James' Palace Stakes so had a tenner on it at 7/1 but came second.

Any ideas where I might be able to watch the arc on line ? Are P.Powers running videos ? Cant seem to see it on their site.

I had 2.50 each way on Lope de Vega,I really thought he was going to get placed before he was bumped. I was shouting stewards enquiry before the end of the race.
