Hercules is only a few minutes from O'Connel St. well worth checking out if you're looking for a no messin' place to train

Slightly OT but same general jist so going to ask my question here.

Going to be working in and probably living in the IFSC starting in 2 weeks for the forseeable future, my gym membership in Drogheda is now up so just coasting through a few weeks training by doing my regular hurling training and training for my first half marathon and throwing in some intervals aswell.

I'm planning on training either before work (7.30 am - 8.30 am) or in the evenings (probably sometime between 7 and 10) depending on what way I'm working as Im expecting lots of overtime in the job.

Planning on joining a gym hopefully within walking or driving distance of the IFSC. Ill be mainly doing Starting Strength, following the conditioning programs from the informed performance website and doing a bit of mobility and flexibility work so will need a gym which will cater for all this, I would train at informed performance but its just too far away for me to get to in the mornings if needed.

Just wanted to know if Hercules is driveable in ten mins from IFSC and if there is parking there? Also do they open early in the mornings before work if I needed to get a session in if I was working late that evening.

Do Hercules mind if you're not a bodybuilder or powerlifter and want to train there? All the work I do is geared towards GAA and I spend a lot less time in the gym from February to September. Also I'm about 11 stone and 5'9" so there'd be no mistaking me for a powerlifter or bodybuilder. The weights I lift are pretty pathetic at the moment so dont want to be getting funny looks from the more experienced lads there.

Also does anyone know of any other gyms close to the IFSC which would cater for what Im looking for, having a good gym and training consistently is very very important to me so want to get this right before I sign up somewhere.

    Hi

I don't think that you will get funny looks from the guys and girls that train there as I have always heard how helpful they are. But as far as I know the Hercs is more of a club then a gym per se, and I don't believe it is open at that time of the morning, though there are a few folks on here who train there would know for sure.

    Best Regards,

    M

Theres one just up from the ambassador on north fredrick street called new dimensions. I used to train there whenever in Dublin so hope info is still relevant. Anyway its just a door or two up from waltons music and located in the basement. Hard core as ya'll get without lifting grates and train tracks!!!
Always enjoyed the training sessions there, found the members helpful for spots etc and were friendly, as were the staff. The only cardio equipment was an old spinnin bike and a punchbag. Well worth checking out. Think it was a fiver a go with weekly and monthyl rates as well.
