Inspired by another thread in this forum...

Back in the day console game cheats were everywhere... ones you use loads you remember...

So what was the first cheat you ever learned off?

Mine was for the Original Sonic The Hedgehog

Up, down, left, right, A + Start together...

Must have used that cheat a thousand times....

That's exactly the same cheat as me. Gave you the ability to select any level you wished for. Awesome :pac:

Lion King on the Snes, B,A,R,R,Y lets you skip levels. Always wondered was there a Barry on the team and now thanks to the power of the Interweb, I see that there was in fact a Barry Grren on the programming team.

The ones i remember are from Mortal Kombat on the MegaDrive

    mk1 was D,U,L,L,A,R,D

    MK2 was l,d,l,r,d,r,l,l,r,r (i think)

That was probably mine too. Either that or the cheat to get infinite shurikens in Shinobi. Think you set your shuriken amount to 00 and held start until it changed to an infinity symbol. Brilliant

I recall good times ensuing thanks to this little ditty for Road Rash 2 on the Mega Drive:

Hold Up + A + C at the title screen until "Press Start"
appears. While still holding those buttons, press Start. The "Wild Thing
2000" bike with 200 mph top speed and unlimited nitro will be available.

That bike was awesome! The code in the footage above seems incorrect; "left + B + C" was the alternate input.

Ah yes, I remember that one too.
How did word of cheats spread back then, if there was no internet

I downloaded a megadrive emulator for my laptop last year, just so I could play that Shinobi game again. Good times.

For CJ's Elephant Antics on the C64 the cheat code was 'Itchy Arseholes' wasn't it?

Hairy Assholes. That was my earliest memories of cheats. Didn't it have to be typed in backwards too?

Probably a C64 cheat. Anyone remember warm resetting the C64 with a bent paperclip? You connected the 1st and 3rd strips on the expansion port. The machine would reset back to the C64 BASIC screen, and you do a POKE to change a value in the game, and a SYS command to get back into the game.

Man that's a long time ago now. I'm old.

The revenge of shinobi had a cheat which I can't remember now, 100 points if anyone can remind me!

I fondly remember using bastárd and hangthedj as cheats in GTA.

I remember on many occasions frantically trying find a blank video to record cheats for games that I would never own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,943 ✭✭✭Burning Eclipse

    Oh wow the memories...

A prize to whoever get's this... NXRD. (don't google it, that ruins the fun) Really showing my age with this one.

No prize for guessing this one - Jafar/Jasmine/Aladdin/Jafar.

Down, R, Up, L, Y, B (I never input the X, A and it still worked for me)

I remember making my own cheat for Renegade on the Amstrad CPC 464 using a Multiface 2 interface plugged into the parallel port.A quick push of one of the buttons and I had the Renegade code in front of me.Finally, after weeks of trying I managed to increase my lives. :) God that was sweet.

One of the creatures games on the C64 had a cheat that would activate when on a certain part of the title screen you licked your finger and ran it along controller port 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,912 ✭✭✭SeantheMan

The Sonic , same as OP would have been mine.

Some memorable ones that I constantly used were

    - IGOTPINK8CIDBOOTSON for Alient Trilogy :P
    - operation cwal and show me the money for Starcraft :)

Also had a Game Genie for the Megadrive,

I've not used cheats since the PS2...except for GTA games, I cheat on every single GTA game without fail...health/weapons/armor all the way :)

Midnight Resistance on the C64, you had to push all the buttons on the keyboard at once for unlimited lives.
Handier using a book to squash them all !:D

I can't remember any of the old C64 cheats, but I would've got them from magazines or sometimes they came printed on the manual. On a slightly related note, who else wants one of these?

I can remember 3shreddedwheat as the cheat for (I think) the super squad of players in Sensible Soccer on the Amiga.

Also, Impule9 for all weapons in Quake :D
