Child-hood dreams

I remember being younger maybe 12ish and thinking by my mid 20s I'll be a vet or atleast a millionaire.

Well now im in my mid twenties and haven't got a job I'm poor and still live with my mother.

So my question is has anybody accomplished what they wanted to be when they're a kid.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a mechanic, a long-distant lorry driver or Bono. I wasn't fussy as to which.

I decided when I was 7 that I wanted to make cartoons. And I actually achieved it. But it's not at all like what I had envisioned in my childhood mind.

I honestly don't remember what i wanted to do for a career when i was a kid.
Now i'm on the dole the past few months..
I'm sure i would've wanted more than this though

I remember wanting to be an animator or cartoonist of sorts as I spent most of primary school doodling. For a brief while I thought it would be cool to fly planes. There was also a point where I wanted to make games.

Ultimately I imagined me going to college without getting specific because I had no idea what the hell they did in college. After which I would have worked some job that I imagined to be similar to what my Dad was doing. I wasn't even sure what he was working as as all I know is that it involved computers and messing about with electronics. I wasn't all that imaginative.

Junior Cert Art killed my interest in doodling and everybody else in the class was better than me. Fairly shocking considering I thought I was amazing at drawing before I went in. Turned out everybody else I'd known before was just crap. So I did the noble thing and stop caring about the subject I wasn't the very best in, like no one ever was.

I'm in college now and I'm still unsure of what I'm actually going to do with my degree. I do have a pipe dream about fecking about in outer space.

(I also wanted to be in a band just like everybody else)

When was a kid i think i wanted to be a killer because i use to cut of snails heads and torture insects with hot ohh and you could put bee's in the freezer and then take them out the next day and heat them up with a magnifying glass and they could come back to life and fly away. I have to say, yes - I've reached my dreams and beyond in some ways.

I was bullied awfully as a child, and always dreamed of being bigger and a better fighter than my tormentors - I'm all that and much, much more.

I also wanted to be a soldier, I done that and have had a long and enjoyable career in the Defence Forces.

I barely made it through secondary school, infact I left in 2nd year.. Now my daughter is starting her transition year and my son is going onto study for a degree in economics in two weeks.

I grew up in the flats in Ballymun, and always wanted to live (this may sound strange to some people) in a "purchased house" - I bought my first house when I was 21.

I've still got some dreams, but I'm content with what dreams have come through to date.

I used to dream that Ian Dempsey would sweep me off my feet & marry me. I loved him.
I loved his weird wooly jumpers, his floppy fair hair & his lovely smile.

Ian Dempsey was my God growing up.

When I was a child, I wanted to be a mammy when I grew up. When I found out that I could be a mammy AND something else, I decided that I wanted to be a doctor. I'd still like to have kids some day and yup, still hoping to be a doctor so my childhood dreams are also my twenty-one year old dreams.

I also wanted to be a lion at one stage. I achieved this one night in Amsterdam

Overall I'm happy though

I wanted to be an artist, as in painting.
Then I did art in secondary school and my dreams were shattered, I was useless.

Other things included being a Wrestler, a teacher, a footballer, a darts player, golfer, and a pokémon trainer.

I wanted to create computer games. Which I did from age 13-16 on the C64 and Amiga computers.

Then I switched to a PC with 16mb of memory. After realising just how much code is involved in creating software of that size, I got lazy and gave up.

Oddly enough, I'm now back coding, but applications rather than games. :mad:

I wanted to be an actress (just famous really), a marine biologist, a vet, a psychologist, a writer, a beer tester/taster, a porn star and a slug.

I never managed any of the above (with the exception of beer tasting, I do that on a regular unpaid basis now) and currently work in HR. Hurray for childhood dreams!
