these "football" logs are making this forum look an absolute mess and I think people are takin the piss with their "But its for football only" therory as to why its ok.

Fair enough, if its for football only and you think your log is special enough not to be in the logs forum can the mods arrange a sub category in the logs section for football only logs.

There are decent threads in this forum which are not even being used! exampple this w'ends football league thread had 3 replies

Its either we change the name of this forum to "football logs" or have a sub category otherwise its over next few weeks it will just become a forum for logs only

    Seconded, agree 100%.

If we can have football logs in here, then there would be no need for a logs section as all the other logs could go into the horse racing or main section. All logs should be in the logs section imo, but another sub section could be the compromise, though making no sense.

A place for everything and everything in its place. :)

Agreed, there seems to be information overload regarding the logs.

Only teething problems, I'm sure it'll be cleaned up in the coming weeks

And how are the logs to blame for that? It's only 14 threads down, it's lot like it's been shoved to page 4. If anything I'd blame the "Football bets from the pro" thread because all football bets are discussed in there, taking away from the right thread

I meant to actually make that point, thanks as I clearly forgot :o

People start discussing different matches in different logs instead of in the correct thread, annoying to sift through all the mess.

and the "Football bets from the pro" thread whenever I've read/used it is only ever seems to have talk about a match that is about to start or is currently running.

All threads moved, the majority decides.

nothing against anyone personally, I know your thread and Doocey's have been going for good long time....but there have been at least 5/6 over a couple of days and its just gotten a mess

Maybe have a chat between yourselves(mods) and decide if there is anything special or interesting enough for it to be moved out of logs section(HUGE profit, lenght of time running, or something)

My thread, S.Y's thread., this one. That's three times in three threads.

If it wasn't for you going on a one-man crusade I'd have no problem with this move, but the way you did it is just spiteful for no reason.

One thing I've noticed is that the individual threads for certain leagues eg Championship 28th-29th are hardly used at all and instead these matches are discussed in football tips from the pro, it would make more sense that instead of starting a new thread each week, each league was given a thread of its own

We had talked about how we were going to sort out the football section and our two options were super threads for individual leagues or the weekly threads. We went with the weekly threads because we reckoned that long threads where everything was lumped in together would end up being confusing messes.

Also we have been contemplating closing the football tips from the pro thread and direct people towards the current set up.

it was better before when pretty much everything was in football tips from the pro. it's not like this forum is that busy. then this section was made and there was football tips from the pro and "premier league 28-30th" or championship or whatever; this meant that half of the stuff was being put into football tips from the pro and the other half was going into these threads and it was just retarded. i made my own log on here because of this, last year i just posted in football tips for the pro because that was the done thing.

either change it to the way it used to be or scrap football tips from the pro and make threads for each league. it really doesnt work with both

also; make a sub section for football logs, its just easier and cleaner for people who dont want to look at other logs. this would also be apt for the horse racing section, etc.

My vote would be to close the Football Tips from the Pro thread, much as I enjoy reading it it is a hang up from when there was no Football Betting forum so everything was discussed in the same place

I think it should be closed, we set up threads for the current weeks betting and if we supplement them with a rest of the world one then that should cover it
also; make a sub section for football logs, its just easier and cleaner for people who dont want to look at other logs. this would also be apt for the horse racing section, etc.

The logs stay in the challanges and logs forum as far as I am concerned, adding more sub forums makes the place unnecessarily complicated to navigate and cluttered, since the addition of the new forums we are already forum heavy, I wouldn't be keen on more

I am willing to change my mind on any of the above if convincing reasons can be given or if the majority of the forum want it then that will do too

Would like to suggest having a La Liga super thread, Serie A super thread and Bundesliga super thread as these are the main punting leagues after the Uk leagues. Think having the weekly threads for the Premiership,Championship etc is the best way to go. At least then if people are looking for info on certain matches its easy enough to find instead of going through pages on the football tips from the pro thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

I think the fact that the football tips from a pro thread is sticky-ied gives people an impression that is it more important. I like the idea of weekly threads for respective leagues. But i also like the tips from a pro thread.

My idea would be to rename the tips from a pro thread to something like 'What are your bets'. Obviously not that name but for that to be the theme of it. You just post your bets up there. No explanations about why as they should be in the respective league threads. Post up your single bets, doubles, trebles or accumulators. That way somebody might like somebody elses bets and use their combination or a mixture of a few peoples. Gives people an idea of what we're betting on in this forum in one central area.

Think it works well on this forum.

    http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/f6/

Although they create a new thread for midweek and weekend bets for each new week. Not much need to do that though.

    My only suggestion here.

But can we have that EPL Challenge match-day thread again? I don't mind creating one in future if there isn't anyone willing to do it.

I thought it worked well the first week, despite maybe one or two actually making any profit from that match(Spurs v City).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

Yeah Ad. Was a good thread. If it's cool with mods and you wanted to take it on board i'd support that. Get it up early in the week so we can leave the poll open for a few days to pick the match.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭x PyRo

I'm trying to figure out how we'll go about it, didn't think it through properly. No problems with you doing it Ad, I just wanted to come up with some better ideas so I left it alone for a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,808 ✭✭✭Raoul

I like the idea of threads for individual leagues. But does this not create a problem when people are betting on different leagues in the one accumulator. And it also creates more hassle if you are posting bets having to go from one thread to another instead of just one long post.

I always liked reading football tips from the pro thread. I like El Horseboxos idea of having a thread where you just post your bets. Therefore discussion could be had in the league threads and then actual bets placed in the "what are your bets" thread.

Why not just have a weekly thread for all bets?

It is a simple suggestion alright

We will leave this thread up for a few days to gather suggestions and then have a poll on them and see what the forum wants

So the more comments and suggestions the better

I think we should scrap the "Football bets from the pro" thread. It was really only a thread in the Gambling forum to discuss football bets, so since it has it's own forum now the thread itself is obsolete.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,459 ✭✭✭T-b0n3

I agree with Adnan. We should defo get the 'EPL Challenge match-day thread' back I thought that was a great idea and was good fun.

Not sure what I think would work best overall though.

A thread for each league's game week was my original thought (ala punterslounge) but as people mentioned a lot of chat would cross over with multiples etc so that might not work very well.

I'm sure we can come up with something thought cause at the moment were only really using 1 or 2 threads and its kinda all over the place.

It will only work if all or most of the posts are informative. People provide reasoning for why they like a particular bet related to the league in the thread title rather than just posting up something like the this:

Over 2.5 in Sunderland vs Man Utd looks good. I have it in a double with Norwich to win. 50 euro on it @ 2/1.

Something like the above could be kept for a renamed 'tips from the pro' thread or whatever that just lists your bets without reasoning.

Plenty of time till the next EPL game week so if you or the other mods have any better ideas that's cool. But I'm open to doing the EPL Challenge Thread if needed :)

I'd be very sad to see the Football tips from the Pro thread closed.
I for one don't have the patience to go scouring in folders and sub-folders looking to place my comments in the right one, and given that often I might be talking about different competitions taking place at the same time, the generic thread is the ONLY one they suit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭fkiely

Just my two pence worth:Perhaps it'd be easier to have one thread for general bets without explaination. Then have a new thread each week for English and Irish football. And to top it off have season long superthread for Serie A, La Liga and Bundeliga.

I know it hasn't been discussed in this thread, but I assume this is for all feedback.

Is there any chance Boards could get in touch with Paddy Power (or any bookmaker) to sponsor a tipping competition.

For example, Betting Advice Forum have many sponsored tipping competitions. They have a 1,000 euro prize for the Premier League, Championship, La Liga, Seria A, and the Bundesliga. They also have a 500 euro pot for many other leagues.

Obviously, there'd be no need for that many different competitions, and the prize money may not be as much. However, I think it would be fantastic for this forum, and if that doesn't attract people, nothing will.

    Thoughts?
