Turned out from my ratings thread that a lot of you felt you needed musical guidance. Well I'm going to post music of many different genres on this thread and you can decide what you want to pursue and what you wish to stay ignorant to. Also, I guess we might be able to get some discussion of some sorts. Maybe. You're welcome in advance.

Link number 1 is from what I think is one of the albums of the year.

Brilliant album. 'Animals' and 'Apologetic Shoulder Blades' are my faves. Had the album on repeat for a week.

All so far have their merits, take a good few listens to get into them though.

    Great thread.

I think this has to be one of the nicest hip hop albums in the last few years. Exile's beats are gorgeously rich. Blu sounds like an early Common.

There's a slight feel of Kanye's The College Dropout without the unbearable arrogance.

Thread fails (for me) so far, but keep it up, great idea

Hmm. Originally I thought that this'd be some "lol my taste is better than yours" elitist thread, but I just listened to Blu & Exile there (I am trying to give hip-hop a chance as I don't listen to a lot of it) and I quite like it. I'll get around to checking out the other posts now.

That Blu and Exile album is top drawer.

    0_0 ..... .... No sir I surrily do not.

What I do have today is a song by Have a Nice Life. It's called Bloodhail. I think it's pretty good but the album could have been trimmed down. Has a nice shoegazy feel.

I was going through this thread and came across this gem . Looks like a thread that has great potential. I think this one deserves to be resurrected some great tunes here. cmon kold

Sorry, I've been indulging my alcoholism a lot and as such have been neglecting my duties.

Ben Frost is the recent king of experimental ambient. This most likely won't appeal to many of you as it really needs to be listened to on some decent speakers/phones.

I feel I need to get some folky stuff into this thread. If just to make a horrible clash with the above link. Have some Andrew Jackson Jihad. They're fun.

I'm pretty sure this is a legit download.

It's a hip hop instrumental album that is based on music from Bjork. Forgot I had it and played it in the studio today. Good sh*t.

Like the Dub FX stuff Kold. Didn't make much of his studio album. The live youtube vids are insane though.
The Sax in this is sooo good.
Yeah the album definitely loses something but it's still worth a couple of listens. You play sax don't you?

This wasn't on youtube a few months ago so I uploaded it myself but then mine was taken down, dunno why, wasn't arsed reading up on it either because someone else has uploaded it since.

The emcee is Waddy, aka Ninja from Die Antwoord. This album is pretty cracking really, was hard to find when I went looking for it but I'm glad I did.

Probably, unfortunately my 2nd hard drive is in it's dying throes so I can't really access my full music library until I buy a new one (which could be an age since the next two weeks are gonna cost me a bomb) so I'm just naming **** off the top of my head until then.

    Another tune for good speakers:

    And some dirty bass.

Also, f*ck Samsumg, how do 2 hard drives die after 2 years when they're treated well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

I do really love this track though.

Avoid samsung but if you have E70 to spare tesco are doing a 1TB external HD with a 3 year warranty. Well worth it and it's a WD one.

Any more hip hop along the lines of Blu?

Most of the time I'd say start at the beginning and work your way through but with DOOM I'd definitely recommend Dangerdoom or Madvillainy.

I actually really love this band.

    Like srsly:
    Nobody knows everything
We know this to be true
Everything is difficult except what’s in front of you
But it’s complicated even under your nose
    Bull**** math equations
    Your highs and your lows

    And your manic depression
    It comes and it goes
    Your parasympathetic nervous system reacts
And you’re in fight or flight mode

How’s the world so small when the world is so large?
    And what made the world
Could I please speak to who’s in charge?
    Everything is real
But it’s also just as fake
    From your daughter’s birthday party
    To your grandmother’s wake

    And your bipolar illness
    It comes and it goes
    Your parasympathetic nervous system reacts
And you’re in fight or flight mode

I’ve tried to know which words to sing so many times
I tried to know which chord to play
And I tried to make it rhyme
I tried to find the key that all good songs are in
And I tried to find that notes to make that great, resounding din
But there’s a bad man in everyone
    No matter who we are
There’s a rapist and a Nazi living in our tiny hearts
Child pornographers and cannibals, and politicians too
There’s someone in your head waiting to ****ing strangle you

So here’s to you Mrs. Robinson
    People love you more
    Oh nevermind
    In ****ing fact Mrs. Robinson
The world won’t care whether you live or die
    In ****ing fact Mrs. Robinson
They probably hate to see your stupid face
So here’s to you Mrs. Robinson
You live in an unforgiving place

Apparently playing Whelans on the 30th. I'd go if I wasn't broke as f*ck and under a lot of college pressure.

    This track is scary powerful.

    Oh yeah, it's Ben Frost.

Never been mad for that "8 bit sound" but I quite like that song, I've still got to pick the E.P. I love Cosmogramma, Brainfeeder has been a large part of my "musical year", Lorn and the Gaslamp Killer in particular.

I meant that I reckoned it could be quite an odd thing to do.

Ochre is some ridiculously pretty ambient IDM.

Also, this mix is free to download and I think it's very good: http://soundcloud.com/ochre/ochre-live-prototype-arhus-denmark-19th-jan-2007
