2nd Year Science: Module Selection

Hi, I was registering yesterday and selecting my modules, the subject choices which i chose and were confirmed - Zoology, Microbiology, Sediments/Biosphere and Algebra. Thing is i can only select 3 and when i try to tick the last subject (it doesnt seem to be any one in particular) it says ex-requisite. I dont really get it, its probably something really simple that's written right in front of me but if anyone would be so good as to give me some help, i'd be very grateful. thanks :)

I was just going to post up a FAO: 2nd science thread

I rang up about this yesterday - They haven't updated the module list yet, which is why there's so few modules to choose from, and said to check back in a week at the earliest.

    Hope that helps :)

is this undenominated science cos i can't see one of my modules there. rang up about it and they say there's no reason i shouldn't be able to select it.

i'm wondering do we need to register our subjects online for undenom. science since we already picked them last may? emailed cora about it. still waiting on a reply :)

I registered on Tuesday. Some of the applied maths modules were under the old module name (MP203 - MP207/8 and MP204). Maybe some of the other modules are under their old names?

Yeah, it's for undenominated science. They've just not updated the module list, and to check back in a week. No hurry for registering anyway :)

Do you mean the pic you had last year or the pic you've just uploaded?

Oh ok...maybe send them an email with a new pic (which is what first years have to do I think) and ask them to change it. I doubt they have it printed out yet :)

cheers :) i'm registered, just to have pick the subjects.

i don't see any module for maths physics (app maths) honours - MP280 it should be. and what he said ^^ module list isn't updated yet.

MP280 is the new code for overall code for honours app. maths. The other codes I mentioned are the individual modules which were the ones up when I registered. I know some else who registered for their courses which were mainly biology based and they had no problem. The registration process seems to a bit pot luck from the sound of it!

i know this a proably a bit silly but i got 2 out of the 3 subjuects i wanted for 2nd year science, what would happen if i just went ahead and choose the 3 i wanted when registering?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

it'll prob come up some error. they're going to realise that you shouldn't be in that subject so i doubt you'll get to do that subject.

anyone know where we get our timetables? do we have to pop into the College of Science offices to collect them or email one of the staff?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

I think we might have to check with the relevant office (could possibly find it online)

When you go in to pick up your student card they let you take a new picture if you want, or they did last year anyways.

@ OP: See you in micro & zoology =)

    EDIT:

You can find the timetable here: http://www.nuigalway.ie/science/documents/2undenbooklet.pdf if you dig through it a little bit, not sure where/when we'll get a hard copy.

Just been doing a little digging for my own modules, might help some people...

    Microbiology: http://www.nuigalway.ie/microbiology/documents/intro_lectures_micro.pdf

    Biochemistry:
The first lecture will be given on Thursday, 10th September 2009 at 11am in the Cairnes Theatre, followed directly afterwards by Lecture 2 at 12 noon in the Kirwan Theatre.

Lectures on Mondays at 12 and Thursdays at 11 and 12.
Practicals on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons.

Can't find anything on Physiology yet - looks like the last update they had was in 2001 o.O

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

New modules have been added to the list. there was 26 available and now there's 29. maths physics (honours) is among them but not sure about the others.

now i can fully register :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,930 ✭✭✭✭challengemaster

    29?!!?

    I can only see 10 :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

Looks like we're about a year late. ;) Is this a misquote on your part or?

Actually I'm guessing so since the 10th is a friday this year.

Just quoted what's the latest thing there. If I quoted Physiology it'd be from 2001...

I really don't know why they don't update these things...

Sheer laziness apparently. The NUIG website has always been a confusing mess.

Anyone know when the first zoology and botany lectures are on?

I know when they are on but not where. there's a timetable in the two .pdfs under 2nd Year (same one though) where it lists the subjects but not the venues - http://www.nuigalway.ie/science/registration.html

i emailed cora today about it to say there's no venues but she just said there should be venues listed. typical NUIG, always up to date

Thanks, do you think theres any lectures Monday or will they start Wedenesday after getting the id cards?
    Sorry for all the questions!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

i'd say they start monday cos that's the day listed on the 2nd pdf - http://www.nuigalway.ie/academic_dates/academic_term_dates.html

they better send out an email soon. will post when i get a timetable from cora (if ever )

got an email yesterday about MP207 (a sub module of MP280) but still haven't heard anything about other subjects. how do they expect us to show up if they won't tell us where the lectures are?
anyone else having any luck finding where their venues are?

    Blackboard...why didn't i think of that? :)
though the Physics info is confusing. it says intro lecture at 10, but a lecture before it
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The first PH212 lecture is on Tuesday 7th September at 10 a.m. in the D'Arcy Thompson Theatre at the Bank end of the Concourse. There is a PH211 lecture immediately before it at 9 a.m.
and we have to buy the book :( and i think i have the 11th edition that my brother had

:o didn't see that they were different modules. still have to go to both of them though.
now i just need to find out my maths (MA280). i'll have to pop into Aras de Brun to see if it's listed anywhere.

It looks like the zoology intro lecture is on Wednesday, as is micro. Still not sure about Botany or where it is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,924 ✭✭✭✭RolandIRL

    did you check blackboard? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 237 ✭✭Allison91

yep can't find anything there either.

best thing to do is go into the department and look for any noticeboard with a timetable on it.

    For the Botany advisory session held early on in the year we were given a sheet containing various information such as;

"Lectures will commence in M. Tnuthail lecture theatre (AM 150), Arts Millennium Building, on Tuesday, 7th September at 10.00am"

I'm gonna gear up for this unless I hear anything different.
