There is no to very little F-14s there, they were all cut up in 2006-2008 ASAP. There are only a hand few left as display and base guard models. They didn't want any possibility of Iran gaining any spare parts on the black market for it's Tomcat fleet, what's left of it anyway that's in fit for use condition.

The amount of F-15s is crazy. There are around 450 A,B variants there. A lot more are due to join them of the C an Ds, the USAF will drop down to about less than 200 active F-15s (excluding the Strike Eagles) in the next 5 years. Sad to see the classic twins of the 70s, the '14s and '15s die off. At least the F-15 line is still going with the SG and possibly SE models for a few years yet.

All the airworthy F-4s are near out of stock to use as target drones, they are moving onto F-16A,B models for target drones now.

It's crazy, the amount of countries out there with little to no airforce and the USAF can justify shooting down early model F-16s as target practice that are worth around 25 million US each. Granted they have no use for them with the top end F-16 Blocks and the F-35 coming online.

I used to spend ages looking over the google satellite imagery and trying to play "spot the aircraft type".

Even on google maps, the scale is immense.

There are a few instances of B2 and F117's being captured on google maps as well. Do a google ;)

You won't be seeing any more '117s if google update all their maps, they are all cut up except for about 4 airframes about 2 years ago.

I try to find as many F-35s as I can at Forth Worth and at Pax. Used to do the same back in 03-05 as the F-22s started being delivered.

I like taking a look at Lakenheath and counting the Eagles there on GE, I have to vist there and watch them some time at the fence before they get rid of them and replace them with F-35s, can't see the limited number of F-22s getting a squadron based there in the short term.

The Russian bases are good for a gander, all the MiGs and Sukhois languishing around being left to the elements.

All screenshots taken by people and written up as articles now. Some of the locations have since updated their maps (or been airbrushed out).

Pork barrelling Dude - there's not a senator or congressman in the US who wouldn't back a military project that would bring manufacturing to his/her district. As long as that continues there'll be boneyards full of perfectly good aircraft (albeit with miles on the airframes - but certainly not wrecks) that are too 'out of date' to be of use.

The plane graveyard in Nevada? i think, has fully workable planes that can be called into service if needed. As was said it's all about money. Think about most of the arms the Us forces use. Most are produced in the Us....
