I was at a wedding lately and all the tables were named after animated / disney characters, like tinkerbell, snow white and so one. I was at another wedding in Lough Rynn and they name the tables there after the lakes in the county.

Is there something specific you are into, cars, as you mention cartoon characters, old toys child hood, chocolate bars or something else.

Himself decided he wanted to name the tables after football players. My mates were well impressed to be seated at the "Paul McGrath" table on the day. :D
One idea I heard of recently (& it could well have been on boards) was to name the tables after different sweets & put little bags of the sweets on the appropiate tables. Aparently the guests had a great time trading the cola cubes for blackjacks

I was just gonna be boring & go table 1 ..2 until I read that, I love it & I am famous for my sweet tooth so suits me perfectly! Thank you.

my partner and i are big into travel, so i'm thinking of naming the tables after places we've been (turkey, morocco, etc.) and then use pictures of the places as table markers/place tags.

it's personal and suits us well :)

Yeah, was at a wedding with the sweets one - though nobody opened them cause they were in a cute little jar. Nice talking point though.

I like the placenames one, or songs. Though my OH will def. wanna go with the footie option

Thanks for the ideas. like the sweet idea. They both like sports cars if anyone has thoughts on this. Will need at least 8 names if not more.

As Feest said, naming the tables after cities/countries is an easy one. We did cities, with photos that we'd taken from each of the cities. Other options could be famous couples, albums that they like, cocktails names, authors, or even something as simple as colors or animals.

We did the pubs we've frequented over the years or the locals of certain groups. Went down v well. We tried to work it so everyone had a connection to the pub at each table. It became a real talking point.

Friends of mine used the names of the Munster rugby players as they are fanatic about them. Was nice as they had the pictures of them on the tables also;):D

We are naming the tables after musicians and bands we like and having the centerpieces dedicated to them or one of their songs

Used to do catering in a hotel, saw Bond films, ice-cream flavours, flowers, counties, and musical instruments as table names.

We did the sweets thing. Everything from dip dabs to flying saucers. We called the top table love hearts. We got little sweet bags and repackaged all sweets. It took us time to get all the sweets together but found them all locally as buying them online and shipping them was too costly. I can send on me sweets list if anyone wants them

my sister did this, named the tables after places they had visited. was a really nice personal touch.
I think if you have to name the tables, its nice to name them for something thats personal for the bride and groom.

A friend of mine had the names of famous film/book/play couples so say one table was Romeo & Juliet, table 2 was Jack & Rose, etc. I thought it was cute. They even had a Edward & Bella table cos his niece is a huge Twilight fan. :)

My fiancé's brother got married near Christmas, and they had 12 tables and each had a reindeer name, Donner, Dasher, Blitzen, etc and they had little candy canes as wedding presents.

I love the sweets idea, might rob that one ;)

We named the tables at ours after famous streets. O Connell St, Broadway, 5th Avenue etc.

ok so just got married & used the sweet table name theme - thanks for that, I picked up a box of each sweet (like black jacks, fruit salads, magic dust, candy sticks, refreshers & so on) and put a jar on the table, they were a huge success & everyone loved it, it got everyone talking & sharing & I used the sweets that were left over for a candy buffet which went down a storm with kids & adults alike.

My sister was in the bank a few days later & the girl that served her asked how her weekend was, she said she was at a wedding to which the girl said 'was that the one with the sweets' so it really was a talking point :)

One of my friends used different flower names and the centerpiece on the table contained the flowers the table was named after.

I am getting married this year myself, when you said there was jars of sweets, did you buy them from a web site in the jar or were they just bought and you made up the jar yourself ?

I was at one recently where the bride and groom were going to Las Vegas on honeymoon, the table names were all Las Vegas hotels, MGM Grand, Treasure Island, etc...

Mine was very boring I'm afraid....

As most of my guests were not Irish, we decided to go with counties of Munster for six of the tables (and write them in Irish to get the guests talking!)

One was named Tyrone for my nephew's grandma (granddad was taken care of as he was from Kerry). Another was Mayo for my deacon who came over. The others? We just picked counties where my husband had a connection & named the last one Dublin!

I am having a Black and white theme for my Wedding and was going to go for Black and white animal names however my OH is not too keen on this!!
I might borrow the places we've been idea and see if I can rustle up some Black and white photos from our trips away......

Has anyone else been to a Black and white themed Wedding and if so what did they use for table names?

I was at a wedding recently where the happy couple named the tables after famous racecourses (they really love the whole racing / hunt scene) and on each table were "form sheets" where each person at the table was assigned a horse in a race (between all people at each table). Was a real icebreaker at the table. Got people talking about their "chances of winning" The winners were announced after the speeches. No prizes but good fun all the same.

    My donkey is still running:D

My OH and myself are trying to think of table names too - think we might go with TV shows. Some match up perfectly with the tables
    e.g.
    The IT crowd
    Desperate housewives
    criminal minds

We`re also thinking of bands or 80`s cartoons.....

we're getting married christmas time, was thinking of the reindeer table name, or film names, think film names would be nice, with a famous daying of something, but the sweet idea, would get people chatting/passing the sweets around etc

Myself and my fiancé have a mutual love for all things Sesame St so our tables are going to be called after Sesame St characters - haven't decided whether to write names or use pictures yet

right what do you think of this, christmas time wedding, was thinking of doing the following..........have famous christmas movie quotes/?? and have it like its a quiz at the table, so i'd leave the clue and they'd have to guess the film, maybe have it hidden in a card-something like cluedo?! should get people talking, what do you think??:o or is it totally off the wall.just not sure how to do it,

Well IMO part of the novelty of named tables is that when you're going to the dining room, looking at the board of seating arrangements everyone admires the "name scheme" and all the different names. Eg. I was at a wedding where they were named after football stadiums and you had people making jokes like "that's the only way you'll ever get me into Old Trafford" so if your table names are secret your tables are going to be 1, 2, 3 etc.

But as a table game it is a nice idea, better than "bet on the length of the best mans speech" anyway which I've seen at a few weddings

I was going to use surnames from our family tree on both sides but himself didn't like the idea.

The five gold rings, two turtle doves etc is a good idea for a Christmas wedding.

this is a great conversation starter, we did this at our wedding & it was a big hit...just remember to put out pens, I forgot :o Paddy power actually do a sweepstake kit for free, its a card with your betting options in an ivory envelope, looks well on the table. http://content.paddypower.com/weddingsweepstakes/index.php A cert to get people talking particularly where you have a table plan & not everyone on the table knows each other, good ice breaker.... plus can be incorporated into the speeches for a bit of fun if needed :D

I suggested the Greek Gods and Goddesses (Aphrodite, Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Athena etc. etc.) for a girl in my office who was having a grecian style dress and decided to build on that theme.

You could do the Roman versions either; or any other pantheon really - even the Catholic saints or Biblical characters I guess!

For mine, my partner is a musician and I'm in cabaret so we're having famous jazz and musical theatre composers as the table names and we found dotey little placecard holders in the shape of saxaphones and other brass instruments.
