Diet Issues?

Someone please give me some advice.

For the past few months I rarely need to take a dump. I just don't feel like taking one most days. Usually I try and force myself to but it just ends up taking ages and a lot of effort and the end result is small and not really worth the effort.....

What usually happens is after a game of soccer where I've been running around a lot(which happens once or twice a week) I then go to town on the toilet that night. It seems as though all the exercise gets my stomach working and it catches up on the past few days worth of not going to the toilet.

Maybe it's my diet? Usually for breakfast I have weetabix, then for lunch a sandwich, dinner could be anything really, pasta, potatoes with meat and veg, chips and a burger, pizza, pretty much anything.

I drink a few cups of tea and glasses of water during the day too.

    Anyone got any advice please?

    Thanks.

My sympathies, I used to be the same. Never felt constipated but never really went on a regualr basis either. I cleaned up my diet this year, always have my 5 a day, 2litres of water minimum and any bread or carb I eat is a whole grain and its worked for me thank god. I also take a Psyillium Husk vitamin in the mornings.

Can I ask what the 5 usually are? Apples, bananas? Mostly fruit or mostly veg?

Can you recommend a whole grain bread that is easy to pick up in most stores? Would this help do you think?

    Hiya

My 5 a day would be an apple, 2 salads at lunch, normally a tomato and lettuce and then two veg easily with dinner, like mushrooms, onions and peppers in a stirfry and then raspberries or strawberries at night.

I like the granary bread from Lidl its a good sized slice of bread. The husks definitely help as well, they bulk up when you take enough water and basically push through your intestines getting things moving.

Personally the only time I was ever constipated was from eating too much bread/flour products, try giving them up for a few days, replacing them with vegetables and eggs.

Another possibility is that you are lacking in beneficial gut bacteria, try taking some probiotic supplements (and not that Actimel rubbish) and see how you get on.

Any probiotic supplements in particular that you would recommend?

    Cheers.

Was trying to think of the name brianthebard, i have taken this before and also i think a yakult is meant to be good for the gut, better than Actimel. I think seeing as it tastes like sour custard that it must be good for you;)

Any health food shop will have a wide selection, the thing is it's hard to find quality ones. Look for ones that measure the bacteria in CFUs (colony forming unts) rather than in millions of bacteria. I've recently been using Primal Flora from the below website and they seem pretty good

is weebabix a bit light for breakfast? I wouldnt get very far on it unless I had a some fruit added to it. Maybe try some museli and add some wheat germ and maybe a banana to it, it might set you up better for the day

Usually does me grand until lunch time, I sit at a desk all day so I doubt I'm using too much energy.

I bought All Bran last night for the fibre to see if that helps, so I'm off the Weetabix anyway.

Just thought I'd update this incase anyone was reading it lately. I found out what was causing the constipation a couple of months ago - coeliac disease....beautiful.

At least you now know OP. How did you find adjusting after finding out?

    Really sorry to hear this.
How are you finding a GF diet so far? And how has your health been? Have you experienced any noticeable improvement in your health?

    Hey.

At times it's a blessing in disguise! I now cook all my own food, lots of veg and meat, no more processed foods, bake my own bread as well.

But at times it can be a pain, for example I was on holiday in Asia for 2 weeks and that was tough.

It took around 3 months before I noticed the improvements, but it sure is a relief now.

    Thanks.
